Nice Hotel

We were there to visit the smithsonian museums. It was a good location for this. We walked 2 blocks to the metro (subway) and paid $1.35 or $1.65 depending ont he time of day to ride the metro from mcpherson square station to smithsonian station. There were dishes, silverware, a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge, granite counters... it looked nice. The elevators were a little slow at times. Breakfast was great. The room smelled a little like smoke or something when we first got there. not sure if we just got used to it, or if it went away. It was a no smoking room, floor, building...

I am told that there are a number of good less expensive ethnic restaurants a few blocks north of the hotel.

The Internet wasn't working. The staff told me to wait til tomorrow, but I saw there was an 800 number. Turns out that a phone cord was not working so I used the phone cord for the internet and got high speed internet service. The night safety latch moved itself while I was out of the room and I had to call maintenance to get back in. The rooms were nice and well-furnished. The bed a little more comfortable than usual for the Residence Inn. Traffic on the street made noise all night. The kitchen was very modern and there was a flat-screen (not LCD) television set in the room. The TV had the option to allow you to hook up a DVD or other portable device. One big plus--a well stocked CVS Pharmacy with a great selection of everything you could expect from a drugstore, including sandwiches and salads is right next door, virtually attached to the hotel. It's kind of hard to find and it's difficult to get access to parking. They have valet parking for $20/ night but the front of the hotel is really congested and it's hard to get in. I would probably stay here again, but if I did recommended it to a friend it would be with the above qualifications. If Marriott used the regular care that it generally uses with its properties, this could be a really great hotel.
