The Phoenix Park Hotel has a somewhat eclectic history, starting life in the hotel business as a place designed for workers and travelers coming from the nearby Union Station. Originally featuring shared bathrooms, Irish-American entrepreneur Daniel Coleman updated and modernized the Phoenix Park Hotel. The name comes from the iconic Phoenix Park in Dublin, and the hotel strives to do homage to this important piece of Irish history with its gorgeously crafted architecture and decor, including original oil paintings and marble staircase. All guests have access to the notable Irish pub and Dubliner Restaurant, one of Capitol Hill's most respected places to eat and drink. Valet parking is available for a fee.

Rooms

The Phoenix Park Hotel offers guests rooms with the touch of a distinguished Irish country estate. The classic European styling features patterned wallpapers, dark wood furnishings, and a gentle palette of colors for a sense of refinement and ease. The Phoenix Park Hotel provides amenities produced by Irish companies as often as possible; all rooms feature fine linens, lighting fixtures, custom designed carpeting and toiletries by some of Ireland's most notable companies. Other facilities offered in every room include oversized bath sheets, 32 inch flat screen TV including HD quality, in room safe, two telephones, Irish cotton bathrobes, complementary umbrella, daily newspaper and high speed Internet access (LAN and wireless). Guests can choose from a range of rooms and suites. The basic Superior room with king or queen sized bed allows for a single or couple to stay in comfort. Superior rooms are also available with two beds, making them ideal for groups or families. Free Wi-Fi and Wired high speed internet is also provided.

Good location, not much else

The hotel is located close to attractions such as The White House and the Smithsonian Museums. It is also near a Wal-Mart. Other than that, the hotel is very limited. Rooms are small and possess older decor. The typical hot water/tea/coffee station was absent. Breakfast was not included with the room. However, the room was clean (except for a stain on my blanket) and the free internet worked fine.

Irish nest in DC

This is an irish hotel tucked away in dc, it was reasonably central to walk and if not to some things a very short cab ride. Staff were fantastic and very accomodating- had an excellent feel to the place & enjoyed our stay there. We were recommended this hotel by a travel agent from america and it definately didnt disappoint.

Great location

There was a problem with the reservation the first night, but the next morning the front desk staff were great help in fixing it. Call ahead if you are reserving a room for more than one person but you're flying separately. This location is one block from Union Station with great shops and Metro access. It is also about four blocks from the Capitol and the beginning of the Mall with the many museums, etc. The Dubliner pub is connected to the first floor of the Phoenix Park and we ate there three times. One of the evenings we were there for the live music - very nice. There is no swimming pool, but the rooms are very nice, decorated with an old-world decor but with a current HD tv. Loved my stay in Washington DC and at the Phoenix Park!

Great hotel experience!

It was very central, right next to Union Station in D.C. and in walking distance of the Washington Monument, Holocaust Museum, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, all of the Smithsonian Museums, the Crime and Punishment Museum, the International Spy Musuem, and the list goes on and on! There are a bunch of great restaurants right by the hotel, including the Dubliner (in the hotel) as well as the Capitol City Brewing Company (across the street).
