Relaxing hotel with a touch of Irish hospitality
The Phoenix Park Hotel has a somewhat eclectic history, starting life in the hotel business as a place designed for workers and travelers coming from the nearby Union Station. Originally featuring shared bathrooms, Irish-American entrepreneur Daniel Coleman updated and modernized the Phoenix Park Hotel. The name comes from the iconic Phoenix Park in Dublin, and the hotel strives to do homage to this important piece of Irish history with its gorgeously crafted architecture and decor, including original oil paintings and marble staircase. All guests have access to the notable Irish pub and Dubliner Restaurant, one of Capitol Hill's most respected places to eat and drink.
3 Reasons to Stay:
Combines classic Washington style with distinctive Irish touches
Great location just a few blocks from the Smithsonian museums and Capitol Building
Popular hotel for weddings, functions, and for visiting politicians and functionaries including Bill Clinton
Phoenix Park Hotel Rooms

Cozy
Near Union Station and Chinatown. We visited the National Mall, all monuments and memorials, many museums, Ford's Theatre, the Nationals ballpark and Georgetown University. We enjoyed adding the Phoenix Park to our list of visited historical hotels.

Don't expect to sleep if you stay her.
Unbearable noise from two street-level bars, both with outside drinking. Noise didn't stop until about 3:30 am for both nights of our stay. Hotel wouldn't honor accommodations made via Orbitz. Dual hot/cold air blowers in room were set for summer system, evening though we were there in April and outside temperature was in 40's. Asked for space heater and it took 6 calls to front desk to get response. Toilets backed up.

Great location.
The location was great. I wish they had free shuttle service to Reagan National. I wish they had free coffee in the lobby in the morning. People were very helpful at the front desk. The Irish Pub was great.

reservations
I had booked a two double bed room for myself and my grandson - I confirmed the week prior. When we arrived I was given one double bed - when I complained they said they didn't have any reservation for me. Fortunately I had confirmation number - I was then given king bed with roll away the next day we were moved to a room with a king bed and a totally unusable pull out bed. I was never given the double beds - we were also put over the Pub and right next to the construction site - I think we were treated worse because we complained.

My review of Phoenix Park Hotel
Experienced problems with the bathroom sink water system. Found cold, hot, and no water coming out of same tap at various times. Maintenance informed twice but was unable to resolve completely. Bed was comfortable, decor was pleasing, but wall paper starting to separate on wall near left side of bed. Air conditioner outlet blew directed at head area of bed. Was uncomfortable enough to turn off during night.
