Noisy
When I was there a large group of college students were extremely loud all night in the halls, stairwells and rooms. Management was not able to quiet them. It was impossible to sleep.

Nice, but....
The rooms were nice, the staff friendly, but I was first given a room that opened into the elevator lobby (!). Who designs a hotel with guest rooms that open directly into the elevator lobby? This is a new hotel. I just knew I'd be awakened by a noisy tourist at 8am (then 8:30, then again all morning, etc.) chatting loudly while waiting for the elevator. So I got another room, unfortunately across the hall from some kids that were in and out at least 30 times, chatty and shouting, in the half hour I was trying to take a nap before going out for the night... The TV remote didn't work, they fixed it right away with new batteries. When I got back at about 2am, the iPod dock thing by the bed didn't work... Nice, but issues. Also, why do hotels never have acoustical seals at the doors?? This is such an easy thing to do, but its never done. If you aren't on the standard tourist timetable, i.e., up at 8 am and in bed by 10pm, your pretty much screwed at any hotel due to noise issues. Also, why does the cleaning staff always talk at the top of their lungs and slam every door and cabinet they encounter when cleaning? At least they had a cocktail hour when I arrived with wine and snacks.

Overrated But They Did Try
This Hotel try's to compete with the big boys, but they fall short. I am beginning to think that Boutique stand for I don't have to commit to the same quality as other hotel with the same rating.

Not what I expected
I was in town just for a weekend gettaway. I toured the city and spent time with friends and local family. I was discouraged when I got to my room and it was not at all what I had expected. There was little sound barrier between my room and the rooms next door. The bathroom was also much smaller than I thought was possible for a "5 star" hotel- the toilet nearly touched the tub leaving little room for entering and exiting the shower. The ironing board was broken and didn't lift it also had pins in it, one of which stuck in my hand drawing blood -ouch. The conceirge was unavailable all three time I attempted to get information about the city or surrounding restaurants. I really like to go to my room to relax in a comfortable bed, but didn't find the bed comfortable at all. By comparing all of the hotels I have stayed at this should not be rated a 5 star. The people who did help me were nice and I did enjoy the comlimentary sangria. It was also nice that they could hold my bags after checkout.

Decent
The hotel was in an excellent location, and easily accessible to transit. While the hotel DID smell like carpet cleaner, it was very clean. The beds were decently comfortable, but I found myself having trouble sleeping (the dryness of the air maybe?). I woke up extremely stuffy every morning but it seemed to clear as soon as I left the hotel. Overall a good hotel, but nothing to write home about.

Friendly Staff
Hotel Palomar was a chic and eclectic experience. When you enter the lobby, you are greeted with impecable detail to design and decor. A friendly staff welcomes you and pays attention to every part of your stay. The room was quite small, but very comfortable and unique. I have stayed in Kimpton hotels before and have never been disappointed. From the east coast to the west coast the staff has always been very accomodating. I only stayed one night, so I really didn't have the opportunity to utilize the many amenities. I did have cocktails in the lounge which was had great music and ambiance. I would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel. However, be prepared to spend the extra dime for the location and trendy nature of this hotel.
