Great location, room quality varies.

The hotel was really convenient from the airport to the subway stop nearby. We arrived at the hotel a little early for check-in time and the concierge was very accommodating and the bellhop showed us right to our room. The room he led us to was below ground level and the windows had no curtains, only old paper shades on them. The windows looked right out onto the street and at the time the streets were being worked on. It felt kind of subterranean and at the same time very exposed and the curtainless windows gave it a dingy feeling. Upon asking for another room, we were led up the elevator to the top floor and to a corner room that had and outside entrance, kind of charming like a little veranda, shared with another room. The room was small, but nicely decorated and fairly clean except for the dust collected on the decoration over the bed. Another bit of kind of funky charm was the bathroom. Most of the wall to the left of the bedroom was actually a big old wooden set of double doors the opened to expose the bathroom. Again, it was clean and there was only one towel rack and no light in the shower area. We didn't use the phone. We had read that the charges were outrageous. Nor did we partake of the "Honor Bar", which was well stocked with alcohol as well as non-alcoholic drinks and many tempting eatable treats. The little fridge came in handy however. Overall, the convenience to the Washington Mall and public transportation, the cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff all added up to a pleasant stay.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The restaurant in the Inn looked intriguing, if expensive, we'd read many great reviews. We waited until our last night there however and neglected to note that it was closed on sunday evening. We did find a great French bistro a few blocks away, called Brasserie Beck, and had a fabulous meal. We paid dearly, but it was well worth it.

Morrison Clark Inn

In D.C. on business.[...]The staff was friendly. The Inn was cozy and very comfortable. It is a Victorian House so if you want modern slick this is not it.I found it to be a relief from the usual hotel. The door man was alert and helped with cabs. I would go back. It is in a good location and prices are reasonable. Food is above average. Nice quiet feeling in Inn and dinning room.

Most everything to see is 10 min away by cab. I think with a map and good shoes you could walk to a lot of places.

Hidden gem

We visited our adult children who live in D.C. near the hotel. The hotel was great, a blend of modern amenities and historic charm housed in a distinctively updated former mansion and an addition. It was nice to be in a neighborhood, too, instead of on busy avenues like most of the larger hotels in the city. The front desk was always available and helpful. When we checked in we were in a rush to a scheduled Capitol tour and the manager found us an available room on the garden level. It was quite dark and not very appealing. We called the desk and before we could even say anything he asked if we would prefer another room when available. When we returned from our tour we were settled into a delightful room overlooking the interior garden. We were pleased with everything else over the weekend except the bell sevice. They were inattentive and often unavailable at the door. The hotel was convenient to Logan Circle, Penn Quarter and other active dining entertainment areas. There is a metro stop a few blocks east. Quite a charming little hotel.

We had not visited the area around the Convention center before. There is a lively district in Penn Quarter with lots of eclectic restaurants and bars, and a diverse array of folks especially when there are games and events at the arena.

A pleasant stay

I attended a conference over the course of three days and decided to stay at the Morrison-Clark due to its proximity to the conference venue. The area around the hotel is a strange mix of upscale dwellings and boarded up store fronts. The hotel itself is quite nice: it has a courtyard and a restaurant that serves a limited but good menu of food. The room had an enormous bed, work desk, and a dresser. From the appearance of the thermostat, its last major renovation was the late 1980's, though the widescreen television couldn't have been more than a few years old. There was also a stain on the carpet (ketchup?), which the housekeeper concealed the next day with a judicious shift of the rubbish bin. The fitness room is small, containing a treadmill, a broken stationary bicycle, and freeweights along with a water cooler and television. The business room is adjacent to the fitness room; I did not use it. The only complaint was being so close to the elevator. I would recommend staying in this charming little hotel to others.

Loved it!

Lovely spot very close (10-min walk) to the National Mall with all its attractions. Staff was extremely helpful in every step. This was waaaay nicer than staying at some all-the-same chain hotel. So much character!

Great location, price and amenities!

This is a wonderful alternative to a large 4-star corporate hotel. It is within walking distance to the convention center, large hotels (if your meeting is there) and Metro. Free in-room internet access, luxurious accommodations (nice personal products, robes, cozy linens, etc.), and very attentive staff. Very personal service. Although I did not have a chance to try to restaurant, room service was quite good. My suite had a large, sunny bedroom, spacious bath and small separate living room. I noticed the standard room was fairly large too. I hope to stay here again!

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The corporate hotels (Marriott, Hyatt, etc.) and retail located around the Metro Center (as well as the Metro stop) are about a 5-7 minute walk. No matter what, the walk takes less time than taking a cab and is quite easy.

Great Stay

Everything about this hotel was exceptional. The accommodations were impeccably clean, the rooms are large and beautiful, the staff were very friendly and the process of checking in and out was a breeze. If you like quaint inn-style hotels then you should definitely consider this place. Additionally, it is close to a lot of great restaurants and bars (1/4 mile max to most things), and it isn't more than a decent walk to the national mall and museums.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is quite a bit of restaurant/bar activity in a concentrated area between 7th and 15th street from approximately F to K avenues. It's a large area, but there are well packed streets with a lot to do even in the early morning hours. Don't limit yourself to things around the national mall as they are harder to find and overpriced.

Unique place to stay in DC

This is a great small hotel with a historic feel and quiet charm. It is within walking distance of the mall but in a quieter setting than K Street. The rooms were smaller as you would expect in a historic building, but not such that you feel cramped. The restaurant was quite nice, with high ceilings and windows.
