Fantastic location

rooms have 15 foot ceilings in country's first federal post office. My 3rd stay there. Really a fun place to stay. Very good restaurant located in hotel. Across from the National Gallery of Art and the Verizon Sports Arena. Junos is a good tapas restaurant also across the street.

Great hotel, great location. Hotel Monacos are always good and good value. Only negative I can think of is that the restaurant needs restrooms on the main floor.

Quiet getaway in the heart of Penn Quarter

Loved our anniversary getaway - gorgeous old hotel with historic scale and architectural details, beautifully transformed to hip and quiet* (no street noise!) --- with a great restaurant (highly rated) and very nice courtyard and bar scene. We are locals who wanted a getaway and found a real gem downtown! Too bad anniversaries only come once a year....

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Our favorite Smithsonian museums are right across the street - Museum of American Art and National Portrait Gallery. We visit these museums (conveniently in the same quad) almost every other month with our kids or friends -- always something to discover and a nice part of town to have lunch or brunch on the weekend.

Average but clean

Hotel looks nice and interesting, unfortunately my room decor was so busy it made it difficult to rest, loud yellow, brown, white/black stripe Heavy curtains, busy carpet, small & medium size circles as back bed wall, loud mustard yellow ceilings... :( No chamomile tea nor hot chocolate room service only warm milk, coffee, or caffeinated tea :(

Excellent Location

Very hard to find. The hotel does not have a very big sign. Hint it looks like a monunment and has a red awing with small white stripes above the steps. We drove past it four times even when I had someone on the phone from the hotel. Location was central to everything. We never had to take public transportation, for what we did. Front desk staff was very gracious. I did ask for the gold fish but never did get one in the room. Oh well, no big deal just seemed like a neat idea for something different. Be aware of the valet men, pay inside, tip only one man. They were out like sharks. The car was fine but it is expensive $34.00 a day. That needs to be considered when the room rate seems great.

Nice Stay

The location of the hotel was perfect for walking to the White House and the monuments. Also a great location for good dining and across the street from a couple of nice museums. Highly recommended for its location and style of rooms and design of hotel. The service was less than adequate and for the price I expected better service.

Jaleo was an awesome spanish tapas restaurant. Great food, wine and service. The price was reasonable for what you got. Probably the best dining experience in DC.

lame 24 hr room service

planned a late check in and passed on opportunity to eat because of the "24 hour room service." arriving at 12 pm there were only 4 choices on the menu. Hotel could not even accommodate a burger and fries. Room was located in basement with poor window location and no view. employees in "staff only" door across the hall were talking loudly and screaming profanities. staff memeber entered the room to count mini bar while my wife sat on the bed waiting for him to leave. he could have come later and billed us. I usually stay at the W. Hotel when I travel to NYC and took a chance on what appeared to be a nice boutique hotel. the service and ammenities were not even comparable to the W. Maybe it was beacause i booked through orbitz. I deserve my money back. what a waste.
