Wasn't invited to the party next door
We were there for Jon Stewart's rally. It was our first trip to DC so we walked the mall and city and enjoyed that part of our stay. The room was nice but the walls were paper thin and we did not get much sleep due to the two day party next door. We did complain about the noise the first night but the party continued until 3am. We had to be up at 4am to insure a good spot at the rally so we thought no bigger we will catch up on our sleep the next night. That didn't happen, the party in the room next door went on until 6am that night. My suggestion to the hotel is that when they book a private party do not put guest who are not attending that particular event in rooms adjacent to those that are attending the event. We might have enjoyed our stay a little more if we were not so tired from lack of sleep. For the price we expected not to be able to hear the conversations in the next room.

May one day be a nice hotel
They are under renovations and while the construction did not start until 9am, the loading in began at 5:20am. We promptly transferred to a different hotel as soon as we were able. I'm sure it will be a nice place once rennovations are complete. But I'd stay away for now.

Nice average hotel
Nothing great or terrible about this place. Not a four star place. it is clean and a bit dated. It allows pets which I did not know or I would not have stayed if I was aware. About three blocks from the Metro. I expected more from a Loews Hotel.

On Strike
DC was a great family vacation with too much to see in the time we allotted (4 days/3nights). The hotel was nice and in an ideal location; however, there was union staff on strike from 7am-7pm over a labor contract dispute. This strike made a lot of noise and was a nuisance right outside the lobby door. They have been on strike for 7 weeks [...] The working hotel staff provided good service and was quite apologetic and even "comped" a few things; however, the noise from the strikers was unbearable in the lobby and could be heard from our 14th floor room. In addition, the main restaurant was closed for renovations. I highly recommend this hotel as long as the labor dispute has been resolved and the restaurant is open.

restaurant
we came in late after 8 pm ,, I have stayed in other high end hotels before ,, so this was just average , the rooms are small but comfortable , close to the white house and national mall ,, but the sevice in the restaurant needs big improvement , the Hotel reception in the food area told us she could not accomodate us because a very large party was comming in ,, we are only 2 ,,really ...you can not accomodate 2 for drinks and dinner ,, she said we would never recive ourfood ? what? so we went to the bar . our bar tender was nice .. the food was too oily on the pumkin salad .. but we were hungry ,, and that large party was never seen there for the 1 hour we ate at the bar ..this place is a 3 star at best in sevice its hit or miss with the staff ,, butthe bartender got our food quick the drinkls were good and the other items not too bad . I was tired , so i did not bother harrssing the recipcionist , but I cancelled brunch for 60 p p the next day , and we walked to the Mandarin across the great lawn to have breakfast with excellent service for 25 p p ..

Great for tourists
The Madison was very warm and comfortable from check-in to check-out. The apples and lemonade were a nice touch. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The one draw-back on the room was that we could not close the curtains at night without covering the a/c vent--a minor inconvenience. The concerge(sp)was most helpful with restaurant suggestions and the door crew always had a cab waiting for us. A minor glitch occured when we were inadvertently checked out early. Our names were deleted from the hotel register and we had no in room coffee the last day. All in all it was a delightful stay.

My review of The Madison, A Loews Hotel
The valet parking is a bit pricy at 35 bucks a day (whether you use your car or keep it there the whole stay.) But we got our car back in great shape, so that was a plus. The one chair was a standard hard-as-a-brick, non-reclining tiny little thing. But the bed, I have to say, was absolutely amazing. Pillow-top mattress, combined with overstuffed feather pillows and a feather-down comforter made for an amazing sleep. The desk and chair were pretty and the TV was a flat-panel LCD. And I can't say enough about the bathroom. The bathroom made me NOT want to leave after our 4 day stay! The granite countertops were breathtaking, and the heated towel racks were a nice touch. But the bathtub/shower combo was the best. The tub was HUGE. We were expecting a jet tub (being a Deluxe room and all), and were disappointed that we didn't have one. However, the sheer size of the tub made up for it. It was almost 6 feet long and exceptionally deep. Great for the avid bubble-bather like myself. We requested a refrigerator be brought to our room, and we had one within 10 minutes of calling the consierge (and at no extra charge, surprisingly.) We had a wonderful view of the apartment complex next door as well as the hotel's dumpsters. Not what you'd expect when you request an upscale room. If you want to eat at the hotel restaurant, plan on spending A LOT of money. It's very pricey, but the staff is exceptional. If you're on a budget, take a walk one block South and you'll find a cheeky little bar with amazing burgers. There's also an amazing pizza place a few blocks away that the concierge swore had the best pizza in D.C. It's called Luigi's and they deliver, and they are GOOD. My biggest complaint is the morning newspaper delivery. You have the option of requesting them to NOT deliver it, which we did do but they apparently were too busy to make a note of our request. Every morning at around 8:30 am we were aroused to a loud BANG. Instead of leaving the newspaper on your doorstep, they OPEN the door to your room and throw the newspaper in. We kept our catch-lock set, so every morning when they opened our door it BANGED against the lock. I though it QUITE rude that they choose to deliver their papers in such a manner. No knocking first, and they completely ignored our Do Not Disturb sign. The housekeeping service was great, although we never in our 4 day stay had our coffee, sugar, or cups replenished. And if you want more than one bathrobe, you have to call the front desk. All-in-all I was a bit perterbed over a few annoyances (especially the newspaper incidents!!!), but the bed and bathroom made up for just about everything. Just take a soothing bubble bath and lay down in that heavenly bed and all your worries just seem to disappear.

There's a small convenient store around the corner that sells a good selection of wine, sodas, and candy. There's also a pharmacy one block away, and you're only about 4 blocks from the White House.

Conveniently located,
Conveniently located to a wide variety of attractions and downtown destinations. Clean, well decorated, large rooms. Beware that the convenience bar is only stocked upon request - then why do you get a key upon check-in?? The concierge did not follow through on arrangements for a brunch and found out too late to make alternate arrangements.

50th Birthday Treat!
We went to Washington DC for my husband's 50th birthday...which happened to fall on New Years Eve. The service at the Madison was excellent! Staff was very polite and attentive, they recommeded restaurants, suggested sightseeing options...very helpfull! We had the Non Smoking room with a King Bed. Room was small and clean - perfect for the 2 of us. Walls were a little thin and noise carried (you could hear doors opening and closing down the hall, the neighbors toiletd flushing...A fan in the bathroom would have been nice to help cover some of the noises... Newspapers were delivered each morning under our door, as well as noticies of hotel events. A refrigerator to use for personal items would be nice- We would definatley use this hotel again!

Short drive from hotel
We had dinner at Madam's Organ in the Adam Morgan section of town. ($7 cab ride +/-) What a fun place! for Soul food and Live music. We were there on Bluegrass Wednesday and had a wonderful and affordable time! (dinner prices ranged from 6-14$) There is little dining within walking distance of the hotel ...might as well go out. Adam Morgan and Georgetown both had pleanty of dining options..the $ spent on the cab was welll worth it!
