JW Marriot

Nice clean hotel in good location. Walking distance to White House, Washington Monument and most of the Smithsonian Museums. Hotel has nice resturaunts and a Starbucks. Nice indoor pool. Only issue we have is that the rooms are small. We booked a room with a double queen bed and when we arrived only thing available was a room with only one king bed. They managed to get us a two bed room on the 2nd night but still, the rooms are small.

Good location, good food

Service was excellent, including room service. The people at the front desk were very helpful. My wife misplaced a ring (which we later found when we got home) and the hotel was great in trying to locate it--sent up a plumber and cleaning staff. Unfortunately, while we were looking for the ring we looked under the beds and found someone's dirty socks, candy, gum, and just a lot of dirt. For the price you pay, you expect the room to be cleaner. Daily room maid service was first rate, so perhaps a word to the wise is not to look too closely under the beds.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Around the corner, on 13th Street is a place called Chef Geoff's. For that part of DC the prices are pretty reasonable and at least the fish dishes, tuna and salmon, were excellent.

Last Minute Getaway

The hotel location was perfect for sightseeing, and had fantastic security. I was traveling with our 17 year old daughter, so it was comforting to see security at each entrance and they required us to show our hotel room key to gain entrance to the JW Marriott. The tour bus route stopped less than a block away, and the metro was about 2 blocks away. The hotel staff was very accomodating and friendly. We didn't eat at the hotel, but found plenty of choices within walking distance. The room was very clean, well appointed, plenty of room for two people to put on make-up and do hair, lots of mirrors, and outlets. We plugged in cell phones, ipods, tablets, cameras, etc. Had a pool, but we didn't swm. Would definately recommend this hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

It was so easy to go out and see the sights, then return to hotel to refresh and head out again. Double decker tour buses stop at hotel across street, so hardly any walking was needed. White house is one block away, and we had a great view of washington monument from our hotel room window.

Small rooms and very noisy

The hotel was nice, but the noise from the street was very loud and the room was very small. The bathroom was VERY small and not comfortable for a family. The staff were great. We chose this hotel because it was within walking distance to the White House, but there were not many restaurants and shops around it.
