Howard Johnson Express Inn Washington DC

This hotel is not in a good neighborhood. It was very evident that it was not for family use. Found another hotel.

It was awful I was scared to wear my jewelry outside period. I laid my childs bracelet on the bed house keeping came thru and apparently took it to laundry and it was never returned to me my room was half cleaned. My stay there was a total several day nite mare I was happy as could be when check-out time came, If I could've left that ghetto fuction and wouldn't have been charged to my credit card I would have checked right back out. Huh the room smelled awful, good thing I brought my own air freshner. the smell of smoke was embedded in the walls as well as the curtains.

The hotel could have offered transportation service. We toured the area like the White House, State Capital, Washingtion Memorial, Library of Congress, and the down town area. The outside decor was horrible along with the smell in the front lobby. They were doing renavation outside.

Terrible location - room was nasty. Only stayed about an hour - Was scared the whole time we were there.

The staff was friendly enough but the hotel room was noisy. There was a break in of two cars on the second nite.

Hotel was in a bad part of Washington D.C. with crack heads hanging in the parking lot.

Please read all the reviews for this Hotel. I did and wished i had taken notice of all the bad reviews!I just thought it couldn't be as bad as some people have written - I WAS WRONG! The location is on one of the busiest roads in DC, the noise is horendous! The hotel is falling appart, the sign outside is all torn and missing, I was ashamed to drive in to the place!IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTO'S on the advertisments!They also encourage the local homeless people to eat a free breakfast there, so you have to endure somewhat shady people walking around every morning! No Hot water most of the time, dirty rooms, need i go on???

Not too close to the major monuments, and with traffic, construction in the area, and the police directing you it takes more than 3-5 minutes to get to the major attractions. There were no trash bags in the room and it smelled musty, as if it had not been open in several months. There were termintes (?) in the room and the toilet was broken. The staff was friendly and offered me a plunger to fix the toilet, but that wasn't what the toilet needed. The wireless internet never worked and the cable/TV had horrible reception. Breakfast seemed to be with whoever walked in there off the street and the neighborhood seemed to be in a 'rougher' part of town. Save yourself the headache and disgust and stay somewhere else.

Not my first trip to Washington, but it was my husband's. In the airport shuttle, a local woman described the area - "it's in a bad part of town" made us leary. When we arrived, it went downhill. The lobby smelled of greasy food. The room was OK (generally clean but VERY small), but we were very hungry when we arrived and decided to call for delivery. The desk clerk would not let us borrow a telephone book because "there is one in every room." It wasn't there. While we were waiting for our food, the sounds from ambulances, trucks and people yelling were just too much. I went online and booked a room elsewhere. We had the room reserved for 3 days but one night was all we could take.

I walked to this hotel from the METRO station and it is NOT in a very nice neighborhood. The guys at the front desk were slow and clueless, the tiny pool was empty, the air conditioner in the room barely worked, the TV only got a couple of channels (none of which were HBO as advertised) so I ended up watching a movie on my laptop. During the movie a little mouse wandered out into the middle of the room. This hotel left a LOT to be desired. I was really trying to save some money, but price isn't everything.
