Perfect location with reasonable price to visit Washington, just 5 minutes walk to subway station and then 5 minutes on train to the Mall and other sightseeings. If you drive the car, after 2pm it's not difficult to find free parking within the Mall (weekday).

Good value for the price
The Howard Johnson at 600 New York Ave NE was a nice moderate rate hotel. The room was clean and well kept. If there is a downside it was that there was no shuttle service to the nearest Metro Station. Clients who don't come by car are at a disadvantage. The walk from the Florida Ave Metro station isn't too far for most people but for a family with young children or the elderly it can be somewhat daunting. The first portion is up a fairly steep hill and there is no side walk over the last section. Also, it is important to walk on the left side of the street going to and from the hotel, because there is no crosswalk on New York Ave after Florida Ave and the traffic is very heavy. Other than how to get to the hotel if you're not in a car, everything else was very nice.

There are a Wendy's and MacDonalds about a half a miles walk from the hotel. They don't have spectacular cusine but it's fairly cheap. The free continental breakfast is a time and money saver, too bad that they don't serve lunch and dinner as well.

ok , comfortable, and in a reasonable area
The Howard Johnson Express is ok for a weekend trip not for longer than that. The bathrooms were clean but the breakfast food could have been better and the presentation of it. Housekeepers did come and clean the rooms on a regular basis. The outside of the hotel needs a change. Outside appearence does matter.

great room, not so great location
I had a 1 night stay here. It was a very clean and well kept room. If it were in a better location, it would have been a steal of a deal! the location was less than desirable, but I have no complaints about the room.

Good for the price
When I read people's review about how bad the customer service was, I totally disagreed with them. We got off at Jamaica train station and tried to get a cab around 2 AM with cold and wet weather, and we called the hotel and the front desk lady was kind enough to get us a cab. And they were easy to talk with. NYer are some rude, but that doesn't mean that you need to be rude also. When you expect people to be nice to you, then you should be nice to them as well. that's all I gotta say. Room is clean, eventhough the area was really not a place to walk in the middle of the night. I would not recommend this for family vacation. You'd rather to pay a little higher price to stay closer to city. Overall is OK

bad choice
the staff was friendly but the bullet proof glass was very impersonal. unfortunately we did not know the neighborhood we selected. the light over the sink did not work.

DC vacation
The location was prime, however the motel was pretty rundown. Once inside, the room was clean. The pool was unuseable due to the garbage floating in it. The place needs a little TLC.
