Almost but not quite a winner

This hotel showed both "old-style" flair and "old style" wear and tear. Carpets were worn, lighting was too dark overall and staff service was uneven. Some staff was very friendly and knowledgeable while other staff was clueless handling simple requests or questions. The room was spotless and quiet. Old time plumbing fixtures and wooden blinds were quaint and evoked a charming older style. The location on Pennsylvania Ave. is a real winner, allowing for the ability to get almost anywhere in the city easily and quickly. I was told that the human operated elevators are going to be replaced in the near future with modern customer directed elevators. A loss in terms of uniqueness in my opinion. In summary; great location, spotty service, uneven physical condition and overpriced considering the total package offered at this hotel.

Great Location, great staff, rooms need some things...

Beautiful building located three blocks from the White House. Rooms are well maintained and the staff members are super. Parking is an issue as there isn't any and no deal associated with the hotel like other chains in the area. Police and ambulance sirens can be heard throughout the night and day, halls are dark, and while we were there the air conditioning broke overnight and we woke up in a 80 degree room. This is a nice hotel however and I would stay aain and recommend to others.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Attractions are all within two miles......there is an excellent bike rental system in DC with two faciiities for renting close the hotel. Also subway stations are to the east and west within a few blocks providing access to nationals Park, the Zoo and other things.

Decent value, but cannot recommend

Nice looking place, very comfortable bedding, polite staff. Adequate fitness center. Got only about 5 hrs sleep due to intermittent loud construction-type sounds in the alley all night. Not completely the hotel's fault, but worth noting. More importantly, I opened the bath towel to find a very long strand of black hair and a shorter one as well. So, no clear evidence that they wash the towels between guest visits. Nice woman at front checkout seemed neither surprised nor concerned when I mentioned it. Ick.

Great location, clean and comfortable.

Older property, cute and spotlessly clean but the room smelled like mothballs. Staff is competent but kind of so-so. Small room and small elevators, to be expected with a building of this age. Free wi-fi and bottled water are nice extras. Overall for a good value in Georgetown I would highly recommend. I would stay there again.

Rather old than "historic"

Travelled to D.C. for business and was pleased with the service and location. My late-night checkin was quick and easy although I probably got the last and shabbiest room that night: Right next to the elevator on the second floor, facing a noisy backyard (AC/restaurant fans running all night). Overall, the room was still comfortable and so was the bed. While some of the furniture and the carpet were a bit outdated and needed fixing, the bathroom was large and had a window as it was facing the same backyard. It had a nice selection of cosmetic products, plenty of towels, and even a bathrobe to use during your stay. The dead space behind the elevator was turned into a kitchen, giving the room even more space. It had a sink and a minibar, separated from the bedroom by a curtain. The sounds of such an old building were a bit scary though. There is the elevator passing by, you can hear footsteps and bathroom sounds from upstairs and the hallway etc. All in all fine for one night, maybe not longer. Stay away from room 205 if you want to avoid the noise from outside. The backyard-facing rooms might still be a better option as they seem more quiet provided you stay on one of the higher floors. The front faces the busy Pennsylvania Ave but overlooks a cute little park.

Jogged around the White House both mornings before light. Easy neighborhood with many college students on the sidewalks. Several good restaurants nearby.

Good Location

The hotel is in a very central area of DC and the rooms were nice and clean, but the staff was a little grumpy and slightly unproffesional at the front desk. Even though they did provide cable for the internet I was not able to get online. Other than the grumpy reception I was not at all unhappy with the hotel. For the area and the cleanliness of the rooms, that were also cute in an old world way, I had an excellent value.

For my purposes the hotel was walking distance to all my appointment, and extremely well located to the center of DC. It was near plenty of restaurants and other bussiness points.

Very nice room. friendly staff.

Traveled for business. Could hear noise from room above but didn't prevent a good night's sleep. Washington Post at the door in the morning. Staff very sweet and polite. Close to metro and in very walkable section of city by GW. room was spotless and charming with dressing space and a coffee kitchen area separate from sleep area. Would definitely stay there again.
