Very pleasant experience

Would recommend Tue, May 24, 2011
The staff as the hotel were all very accomodating and exceptional. We were upgraded to a lovely and quaint suite. The hotel's location is great and within walking distance from the major landmarks. The area was beautiful. Very much enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Dining

Nice restaurant nearby called Founding Farmers. You must save room for the apple pie dessert!

Good location in Foggy Bottom

Would not recommend Mon, Apr 11, 2011
The room was so tiny that it was impossible to move in it! The mini bar was not stocked and the dresser drawers were falling off. Will not stay here again in spite of location. Was not worth what I paid for it.

Time saver

Close to GWU which is what I wanted

Rather old than "historic"

Would recommend Wed, Mar 30, 2011
Travelled to D.C. for business and was pleased with the service and location. My late-night checkin was quick and easy although I probably got the last and shabbiest room that night: Right next to the elevator on the second floor, facing a noisy backyard (AC/restaurant fans running all night). Overall, the room was still comfortable and so was the bed. While some of the furniture and the carpet were a bit outdated and needed fixing, the bathroom was large and had a window as it was facing the same backyard. It had a nice selection of cosmetic products, plenty of towels, and even a bathrobe to use during your stay. The dead space behind the elevator was turned into a kitchen, giving the room even more space. It had a sink and a minibar, separated from the bedroom by a curtain. The sounds of such an old building were a bit scary though. There is the elevator passing by, you can hear footsteps and bathroom sounds from upstairs and the hallway etc. All in all fine for one night, maybe not longer. Stay away from room 205 if you want to avoid the noise from outside. The backyard-facing rooms might still be a better option as they seem more quiet provided you stay on one of the higher floors. The front faces the busy Pennsylvania Ave but overlooks a cute little park.

Attractions

Close to the White House, and conveniently located between the subway stations Farragut North/West and Foggy Bottom

Cozy and romantic boutique hotel

Would recommend Fri, Feb 18, 2011
Warm and friendly staff and very quiet and cozy quarters - an antique character but with very modern facilities - sometimes hotels described as having "historical charm" are really crumbling buildings with a veneer of remodeling -- that was absolutely not the case here, it was as comfortable and modern and tidy as you could wish for, with new and strong furnishings that put you in mind of a past era. Lots of amenities - electronic safe in room, complete cash minibar, coffee maker, and fridge, Bath & Body Works toiletries, hair dryer, robes, bottled water awaiting on arrival, really good shower, tons of feather pillows, room service, flat-screen TV, wifi (a bit weak in our part of the building, but yes, it was there), a restaurant downstairs, everything from the front door inwards absolutely sparkling clean. Top-shelf housekeeping. In-room spa services available for a fee. Valet parking for a daily fee. So cozy and private we never noticed that anyone else was even there. Close to Founding Farmers cafe (make a reservation!!), Baja Fresh and Starbucks less than two blocks away - half-a-mile to the White House and about a mile to most of the monuments. If you have good walking shoes you can leave your car parked all weekend. Check-in and check-out was easy-peasy. We had a delightful stay. Would stay there again and would recommend it, certainly. The only thing I could point out as a negative was that there was street noise (sirens, garbage trucks) from our room, but that was not a major hassle - it was not constant but did show up sometimes. If you are up for a quiet, cozy, romantic, luxurious and discreet small hotel this is a great place to stay. Would not recommend if you are looking for a party atmosphere or something close to a lot of night life or a club scene, the neighborhood seemed too quiet for that.

Dining

Starbucks a couple of blocks away saves time and money at breakfast; it's on the way toward the monuments as well.

Just what we expected

Would recommend Wed, Jan 12, 2011
The hotel was well located, well appointed and well-described. It is a small Europen-style boutique hotel in NW, around the corner from K Street and its "power restaurants" like the Prime Rib. Rooms were small but well appointed. The staff was especially friendly and helpful. The bar was a delight - very international in feel and clientelle.

Money saver

The Connector Bus stop was across the street - for a $1 fare you can get to Union Station or connect up with other routes or metro stations quite easily. Metro station was a short 3 blocks away.
