An excellent hotel, very well
An excellent hotel, very well located, some might call it quaint as it is relatively old style, but a great place to stay. Not a modern sterile hotel, but plenty of charm and character. Would happily recommend it to anyone for a visit.

The location was excellent, the
The location was excellent, the facilities and service were poor - there was only two elevators for the hotel and were the old style manual elevators. We often had to wait far too long for an elevator. The room was good, except the only queen room available was next to the elevator which meant alot of elevator noise in the room throughout the night. We had a blocked toilet which did not get fixed for over six hours after we reported before going out to dinner. It was reported before 7pm but didn't get fixed until after 1am when we returned and reported it again. When we checked out I rang for a bellboy to collect our bags - he never arrived so we carried our own bags out, the front desk officer noted the wrong room. The location was excellent but that was all, we wouldn't recommend this hotel. I understand they are upgrading the elevators, which is good, however overall the service was poor and that is why we would not recommend this hotel.

The only criticism I have is that
The only criticism I have is that this hotel does not seem to be on the route of any of the Hop on and Hop off tour bus routes. This meant that we had to walk or pay a taxi fare to Union Station. It would also be helpful if the hotel provided a small amount of milk in their rooms. Not every visitor drinks black coffee.

Almost but not quite a winner
This hotel showed both "old-style" flair and "old style" wear and tear. Carpets were worn, lighting was too dark overall and staff service was uneven. Some staff was very friendly and knowledgeable while other staff was clueless handling simple requests or questions. The room was spotless and quiet. Old time plumbing fixtures and wooden blinds were quaint and evoked a charming older style. The location on Pennsylvania Ave. is a real winner, allowing for the ability to get almost anywhere in the city easily and quickly. I was told that the human operated elevators are going to be replaced in the near future with modern customer directed elevators. A loss in terms of uniqueness in my opinion. In summary; great location, spotty service, uneven physical condition and overpriced considering the total package offered at this hotel.

Great Location
The very best thing about Hotel Lombardy is the location. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. There are pleanty of restaruant choices and a CVS very close. There were also 2 metro stations VERY close and this was great at the end of the day when we were to tired to walk back! The staff was ok but none of them were really what I would call friendly. The room was nice and always very clean but on the small side, which was fine with us since most of our time was spent out looking at the many sites nearby,

Good value, only minor annoyances
I did a lot of research before committing to 6 nights here. It paid off. The good: - Historic and well maintained, very clean - Great location, 15 min walk to edge of national mall, 5 min walk to Metro, many good places to eat nearby. - Friendly staff usually there to open the door and always there to operate the ancient elevator. - Price was better than the competition. The bad: - The restaurant was too expensive for my crew - looked nice from afar. - That original elevator is small and slow, the quaintness wears off after a day. - Your floor and the floor above you creak like no tomorrow. Hope that your upstairs neighbor likes to sleep in. - Ice maker was in the basement, so I was told, I never ventured down to verify.

Nice Hotel
This was a great place to stay. I was on business at George Washington University, and the hotel was very convenient to the school. It is also a good central location if you intend to sight see (white house, monuments, museums). The room was very nice- large bed, nice living area off to the side. The only down side is the old fashioned elevators which have to be run by a staff member, so can be slow.
