Holliday Inn Capitol

Overall experience was very good,. However upon arrival I was told parking would be an additional $40 including taxes. We were not there long enough to use additional amenities.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Several blocks walk to the Smithsonian, which was the purpose of this trip. This walk also put us on the mall.

Location Location Location!

Coming from Northern California arriving Monday evening and depaarting Friday morning. Location made it perfect to plan see what we wanted. Housekeeping staff was excellent. Problem with virtually no hot water for showers. Tepid at best. Business Center didn't respond when the printers weren't functioning. Printing Boarding Passes was impossible. Starbucks right there! YES. Hotel Breakfast Buffet was mediocre and overpriced.

Average at Best

The rooms were adequate, the location was either great or poor depending on your needs. It is great as it is 2 blocks from the Smithsonian and plenty of landmarks. While you are near the sights, you are really far from any restaurants or bars. There are a couple fast food joints outside, but that's it. The hotel bar had such poor service that we just left after waiting 30 minutes to even be acknowledged. The Hotel Bistro was slightly below average for price and food quality.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

There is a string of bars/restaurants/shops about a half mile or so up Independence past the Capitol.

Friendly staff, great location and price

We came to DC for the Stewart/Colbert rally...I booked this the day after it was announced. It has to be the closest hotel to the Natl' Mall, and we thought it was a great value for the rates. Hotel and room were clean, staff was friendly.

Holiday Inn, 550 C Street

We checked in for a night and got a queen-sized bed and a sofa. Hotel was spacious and toiletries were of good quality (Bath & Body Works brand, and the women's makeup remover towelette was a nice touch). The decor and room furniture was not extraordinary, but it was decent. The mini fridge and complementary coffee and tea were good.

Decent Hotel

The hotel was close to the National Mall which was nice. It wasn't very clean, but good if you're just using if for sleeping.

Great location

This is a great hotel. The location is also great. One block from the National Mall and close to a Metro station. On the down side - very close to a train that blows it's whistle at 7:30 in the morning and it did wake us up. but, on the upside - it was a wake-up call instead of the alarm clock. The staff was helpful. The hotel also tries to be green by asking that you reuse towels, etc instead of everyday replacements. We really appreciated that touch. This was our second stay in the Holiday Inn and we would stay there again.

Maybe because it's a tourist place...

Maybe because it's a busy tourist place, staff members were not too friendly except for a Chinese woman at the front desk. Resraurant staff was not well trained on the weekend.

Walking distance to attractions.

Hotel room and other properties clean with no smelly cigarette smoke lingering anywhere. Starbucks connects with lobby. Parking went from arrival until 5 p.m. the day of departure even though check-out was 10 a.m. Great value at about $33 for two days parking instead of more for one day parking elsewhere. Friendly staff.

Great location, average hotel

I would say the location is perfect for mall walking and museums discovering, so I would recommend this hotel for people who don't want to walk so much. However, the area around the hotel is not nice at evening or night time, and there is nothing to do around (no bars, no restaurants). The hotel is typically an old Holiday Inn: Rooms are average, smell musty, refrigerator and AC are VERY noisy. The lobby, breakfast, restaurant room: everything is average. And the price is high... For a previous trip we did we went to the Grand Hyatt and we will definitely go back there next time, even if you have to walk a little bit more.
