Helix Stay April 2010
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel is older but updated with retro-mod feel. Updates are somewhere between Target, Ikea and CB2. Good for the 20-something set, and anyone who wants to save a few dollars.

Cute boutique hotel
The Helix is a cute, centrally located hotel, and while we had a fine time during our stay there, it is definitely more of a middle of the range establishment than a nicer, high end boutique hotel. The bedroom was cute and had an interesting design, but the bathroom was tiny and look cheaply done-- disappointing compared to other Kimpton hotels that I have stayed in. But the price was excellent and the service was good. Overall, I would probably stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

Not What I expected
The Helix Hotel was very novel. Clean and decorated true to the Art Deco theme. I wouldn't consider this a four star hotel, but the customer service was friendly and my friend and I had a comfortable room. It felt more like a teenager bedroom with surfer pictures and a pair of bunkbeds next to the king bed! We laughed and thought it was funny but the price was fair and we knew that the hotel was a little further than walking distance to the monuments when we booked it. I just wished that it was more elegantly decorated and they could spare the toiletries. Refillable shampoo, and conditioner bottles bolted to the shower were a real turn off, and the curtain entrance with stage lights were a little tacky. Other than that no complaints. Relatively easy to check in and out and the hotel was more than happy to hold our luggage for us while we were sightseeing on the last day after we checked out. Over all, I think a younger clientele would appreciate this hotel. Next time, I would up the standards.

Good value, but garish
I got a very good rate on this hotel, and for the money, it was a good value. But I wouldn't seek it out, necessarily. It's not incredibly convenient to the Metro--10 minutes walk to Red or Blue line--and the decor is hideous. Overdone attempts to be hip that fail at every turn. You can't make a hotel hip just by playing funk in the elevator and providing a fake tiger-skin robe in each room (blech!) Still, it was clean and the bed was comfortable--but no in-room coffee!

Adult Getaway.
All the staff are very friendlly and the Hotel is very clean. However, some one was smoking inside of the hotel (Mariguana). I didn't like it. I think this hotel is only for adults, not for children.

Helix stay
The location is ideal and the interior is full of pop art. It's a nice change from redundant chain hotels throughout the city. The service was spotty- one staff member was fantastic and went beyond expectations, the other ignored us when my friend asked for a toothbrush. Overall, good experience.

Funky hotel, slightly dated
Very fun place and would stay here again. However, the sofa in the room was not comfortable and had a few small stains and the room needed to be touched up. I would still recommend.
