Great location, but pretty run-down hotel

This hotel is very centrally located, and the lowest price in the area, however you get what you pay for (or don't pay for). The rooms were small and run down. There is a cafe attached as well as a bar, so food is accessible at almost any time. However the bar is noisy when you walk into the lobby since it is attached. Perhaps I just haven't stayed in many 2 star hotels, but this place was pretty run-down in general. That being said, everything was functional.

No way

We walked in and the lobby had a bad musky odor to it. There were guests in the lobby - some families but also a good amount of sketchy looking people. The hallways had the same old musky smell. I must say the room was clean although run down but we did not feel safe staying there and decided to leave. This occurred during the major power outage we recently experienced. We needed a hotel and this was the only hotel still available in DC, MD, VA and WV. Now I know why. We decided we'd rather sweat in the heat than stay here.

In really rough shape

Very small dingy room. Paint chips would fall on the floor. Coat hook dangling from 1 loose screw. Lighting was poor. Fire extinguisher sitting in the corner on the floor. Wife and I could not pass each other walking around bed. The bed was soft and springy. Bus loads of teenagers frequently filled the hallways and made plenty noise. This place is more suitable for back-packers. We are a mature couple who will find a different hotel next time in DC.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you go during Spring Break for the Cherry Blossoms, book everything in advance, INCLUDING all dinners. DC restaurants don't like walk-ins, and the wait is almost always over 1 hour for a table.

Should be condemned

Stay away!!! Horrible place. Might have been nice in 1940 but has not been updated or taken care of since. Bum in lobby. Asked if I wanted to pay cash. Rod hangs from ceiling vent and that is "heat and ac".

Definitely budget

This hotel was about $200 less than other hotels in the area, and there is a reason why. Nothing was disgusting, but the linens, carpet, and fixtures had not been updated or replaced in decades. Bring your own shampoo.

great location BUT .....

great location, BUT this is a place MUCH needing renovations: can't control the AC via individual rooms (each floor is controlled all together), rooms are small, bathroom is SUPER dated ... doesn't look like anything has been updated in 50 years including the bedding .... can't believe this place was even listed on a prominent booking site, have always had great experiences in the past on any hotel listed on this site

Would not recommend

Very run down. Very bad experience. Only one outlet in the room. When we left the room we left lights on. When we returned the lights were off, except for the bathroom. Front desk said the had a black out. Wonder how the bathroom light wasn't effected.

Good location bad not much else

The location is great, walking distance to all the major sites to see in the area but the room is dinky. Everything felt cheap, unclean, and not well maintained. Definitely not what you expect for that much money even with the location. Wallpaper peeling etc.

Location is great - everything else, not so much

I stayed at the Hotel Harrington for three nights. It is in a great location and is clean but leaves much to be desired. Pros: * Very close to the National Mall, museums, and Capitol Building - 5 blocks to the Mall, 20 blocks to the Capitol * Very close to Metro Center stop (2 blocks) * Many restaurants within walking distance * Small refrigerator in room * Towels and bed were clean * Electronic (key card) door locks Cons: * Bathroom in need of remodeling - tiles outdated and cracking * Shower water was not hot * 20" CRT (non-HD) television * No extra electrical outlets in room (had to unplug refrigerator to plugin laptop) * No Internet access * Room is very small

excellent location for an eldery couple walking the mall

room small but adaquate, every thing old and worn but worked. slept well in clean and comfortable queen bed. After walking and seeing nearly alll the sights in dc for three days, the harrington hotel was a lovely sight at the end of each day for a very tired eldery couple. Some of the staff appeared to not be happy with their job? Thanks for a wonderful time.
