The aptly named Sonnenalp ("sun on the mountains") Hotel radiates warmth. Owned and run by the Faessler family, whose ranch in Bavaria served as inspiration, the hotel is in the heart of Vail village, a four-minute walk from the ski lifts. After a day on the slopes, guests can unwind by the fire in the library, at the full-service spa or by the heated indoor-outdoor pool. Summertime options include golf at the resort's private eighteen-hole course. The KidVentures program provides youngsters with supervised activities and dinner, while grown-ups can choose among five restaurants, including the Swiss Chalet and the contemporary-American Ludwig's. Guest accommodations have custom furnishings, fireplaces, flat-screen televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi and spacious bathrooms with heated floors.

Disappointed

It was low season and the water heater was broken and therefore none of us had hot showers.

Disappointed

I was so looking forward to staying here. It's been on my list of Vail hotels and unfortunately when we were there they had no hot water. The lady at the front desk said that this was something that she could not prevent but what was strange is that this was a problem that seemed to be affecting only those who were staying there that night. It was off season so I am sure it was a planned maintenance issue which went badly. There were many empty rooms which they did not offer us to stay in. This is so weird. So, for this reason, I was really disappointed. Def. won't be staying there again.

Labor Day Weekend getaway

We stayed for couple of days at the Juniper Suit. The room was very clean and well equipped except mattresses and pillows could be upgraded. Not comfortable. The stuff was friendly. Went to the farmers market. Did some hiking around town. Great place for family vacation!

Fantastic ski hotel

Wonderful experience. Staff was really nice without being intrusive. Breakfast is excellent. Room was beautiful and really comfortable.. Best of all is the ski concierge service at base of main lift. Yes, not inexpensive, but worth it if budget allows.
