The hotel owner/manager had a very STRANGE sense of humor, to my friend and me. The beds gave us back aches, maybe too old and soft. The shower plumbing leaked into the sleeping quarters, making the (dirty) carpeting on one side of the bed soaked.
My friend found big, black, crawling ants in her bed when turning in for the night. The room did not have a pleasant smell to it. Even though it was supposed to be non-smoking, it did smell rancid. When we left the next morning we took the little white bucket for ice and used 3 measly bucket fulls to ice up our beer in our cooler. The owner/manager must have seen me going into the ice machine room with my cooler and was waiting outside the room...though he didn't say anything. The ice mashine was almost overflowing with ice, so 3 small ice buckets full did not deplete the supply in any way.
On the outside the whole place looks really run down overall.
The price was not that great considering the shape and smell of things. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone I know.

Economy, but alright
I was not too disappointed, because the price was very reasonable, but the hotel was old and could use some updates. Friendly, helpful staff or owners, and very convenient because it was in the heart of the area.

Nice, clean, and inexpensive
This is an older motel with nice rooms at very reasonable prices. Very clean and well-cared-for. The location is perfect, as you can walk to anything in downtown Steamboat Springs.

Steamboat Springs
The location was great, and summer in Steamboat Springs is an expensive place, but the Western Lodge was very inexpensive although not very modern.

good location
I was in Steamboat for the WWR and wanted a cheap room for the night close to downtown. The Western has a very friendly staff but is very worn down. It was a pretty dirty room (dirty walls, dust bunnies, cob webs, etc) with uncomfortable beds.
There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room, which was a surprise. This hotel could use some fresh paint, a good cleaning and updating, but being the cheapest place to stay in steamboat it sufficed for the night.
