Ptarmigan Inn

We booked this hotel for a late Spring skiing vacation. The day we arrived was in the mid 70's and we were already feeling down about our chances of getting any good snow. The initial appearance of the Inn did not lift our spirits. It looks more than a bit dated. After checking in we had trouble with the key card reader getting into our room. The staff was very helpful and rushed to get us situated in our room and maintenance immediately began trying to fix the door lock. We left the room to run errands while they worked but they were unable to fix the lock and we were told that we would need to change to a different room. We had already unpacked and the staff were very apologetic. They offered us a room upgrade and showed us our options before helping us move our luggage to our new room. We ended up in a King room with a loft containing 2 twin beds. Although the weather did not cooperate and the snow conditions were atrocious, we had a very enjoyable stay nonetheless. That's due mostly to the fine staff at the Ptarmigan Inn. Once we acclimated to the older decor and the sparse amenities we really came to appreciate the cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff and the superb location. We would absolutely stay here on a future visit.

Right at the Gondola. Ski in/ski out does not get any better. The ski storage is steps from the slope and could not be any more convenient. The staff was friendly, the hot tub was nice with no hassles and they have a ski shop on site where I got a great deal on rentals. The room was average, but clean. Shuttle to town was close by, so no need for a car. Very enjoyable stay.

overall good experience. If you go to Steamboat to ski - good deal. If you go there for a resort, you get what you pay for.

The Ptarmigan is a great value in a perfect location with a superior staff! The rooms are simple and slightly dated, but the price is incredible for ski-in/ski-out. You get more than what you pay for. The staff - from front desk, to cleaning, to maintenance, to the bar and restaurant - even the ski storage guys were great. And it's very family friendly - you don't have to worry about your kids bothering anyone or breaking anything which adds a level of relaxation to any holiday. We'll definitely be back!

Good value and great location. Room with two beds had enough room for group, though smaller than average. Regardless the reason to stay is the mountain and you cannot get closer.

Steamboat Springs is a beautiful place to visit. The hotel is older, not much recent work done to it but it was more than adequate. Friendly and helpful staff. Located a little off the beaten path but not too far off. There are plenty of options for lodging in Steamboat Springs but this is a solid choice.

Stayed there for 4 nights for spring skiing. Had a great time. Was a little noisy with the younger neighbors for one night, but all in all...not too bad.
