A comfortable surprise

I spent two nights at Arlington Inn while in South Fork on work. The King room was large, very clean, brightly lit and comfortable. The receptionist was most courteous at check-in and took extra time to review the dining options in town. The continental breakfast was similar to that in most motels; the breakfast area, however, is much more spacious than many motels. This was a good value and I will return.

AVOID

[...] The hotel is nothing special (a bit dingy, actually), and there are other hotels in South Fork – why stay at a place that sticks you with an extra fee when you check in?

Nothing stellar.

Ultimately, we needed a place to sleep, and the Allington Inn provided just that. The hot water was not working in our room, and while the staff was quick to take the complaint and pass it on to maintenance, they did NOTHING to "make it right," either functionally or financially. Chatting with one of the desk workers, she said that she had to sleep at the hotel recently, and found the beds to be "horrible." They weren't bad, but weren't great either. The pool was out of service due to "maintenance." The walls are pretty thin... the herd of elephants in the room above us didn't help matters. On a plus, the continental breakfast was decent. There was no fresh fruit, but hey, waffle maker... say no more! Next year, I'll stay in Alamosa and drive the 45 minutes to South Fork.

Located in the mountains - pretty scenery, but with Alamosa to the east and Pagosa Springs to the west, they'd be better destinations.

Last Choice for a place in South Fork CO

This is the third time we have stayed at the hotel, and we have been unhappy all three times now. The rooms are alway dirty, and the bathrooms have always been very unclean. The night staff is unpleasant, and the hotel policies are crazy (No water bottles in the pool room etc). Pool/hot tub is unclean, and the night staff did not have any extra blankets or pillows for the 4th person in our group, which they make you pay an extra $10/night for. There are many fantastic places in South Fork and this is not one of them. The only good part about this hotel is it has always had rooms available when all other places were full.
