Nestled high in the Rocky Mountains is the extraordinary hotel. This national historic landmark is the home to the original teddy bear. Gift to teddy Roosevelt, from the maids, after an unsuccessful bear hunting. This type of personal service still rings true and is echoed throughout the hotel. Modeled after the renaissance castle Villa de Medici, this magnificent hotel has been recently restored to its 19th century Victorian glory. Stroll through the fabulous floral gardens in the summer and when the snow falls experience world class skiing, or just curl up in front of a grand fireplace.

Great night at The Colorado
Mtncrs Nov 25, 2009
Excellent experience. The Colorado is a classic "historic" hotel. If you are looking for perfection top to bottom you will ... not like it. But if you are able to look past a few small things that come with being 140 years old then this is a great experience.

Beware NO AC
Lou Aug 27, 2009
When we arrived there, the reception hall was not well lit,the front desk people were nice enough. Our keys did not work;had ... to go back and forth front desk and room about 4X. Next day, key did not work again. Our room was small, toilet was very small. Toilet seat paint was peeling off. It was very uncomfortable inside the room without AC,only ceiling fan. When we left the window open, we heard all the noise outside-cars, trucks, people shouting almost all night long. We could not sleep. There was also a small window on top of the front door of our room that had to be left open to improve air circulation but you could also hear all the noise in the hallway, people talking, walking and banging on the doors. I stayed in several hotels during this vacation because we went to several different places but I would say this hotel was the worst.Expensive and uncomfortable.

Teddy's Hotel
ironhead Aug 27, 2009
The Hotel Colorado is an Historic Hotel of Grande proportions. I love the architecture, grounds and ambiance that go with it. ... Be aware that it has no air conditioning and can be hot on hot summer nights. Street side with the window open can be noisy even after 10:00. My check in person was a bit of an jerk but [...] the manager later made it better. Even when my stays there are not perfect....if you love old Hotels that are in near original 1800's condition.........you will like this place. Take the ghost tour if you can and ask to see the penthouse as well. The great Hot springs are a must if your are there in the winter.......Steam rolls off your head in 20 degree weather. It's not cheap but I hope my monies going to help with its continued restoration and operation. This is a great hotel if you are a history buff.......if your looking for modern day pampering......your at the wrong place. for me its 9/10 based on what it is and what it represents......our American History

A place to re-visit history
Mom and Pop Jul 20, 2009
The quaint hotel had friendly staff and a great location. The lobby was spacious, capturing its once golden age of early 20th ... century. We had a nice time there. Lining the extra-wide hallways are nostalgic photos of President Teddy Roosevelt. Despite the lack of air conditioning, we opened the window and turned on the ceiling fan for a comfortable night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was very good and the decor was elegant, even though the power went out during breakfast and service was delayed. I read from a previous review about the late-night noise from the patio. I mentioned it to the desk clerk upon checking-in, and she gladly changed the room to another floor higher and away from the noise. The hotel hosted two, large receptions during our stay there, and it was good to see they added security staff at the elevators and entrances to ensure safety for the guests. We liked the place and its prime location across the street from the hot springs pool. Parking could be difficult as the hotel does not enforce the reserved guest parking lot. Hey, if you want to stay where Teddy stayed, this is the place. If you wanted more modern rooms, a/c, better parking, quiteness, then stay at the Holiday Inn Express just next door.

Not so great
Jocelyn Sep 28, 2008
The beds were comfy but the noise from the drinkers on the patio kept us awake until 12 am. Since there's no air ... conditioning you can't shut the windows. Holes in the blankets. Big luxurious bathroom just redone. Staff was very nice except for the bar. 2 Bartenders and 5 people- we waited ten minutes and we were not acknowledged so we left. It's charming and funky but for the overpriced rate- it would have been better if we'd had some sleep.

Sad old beauty...........
Robin Aug 13, 2007
The Colorado Hotel is a beautiful building with an excellant location. I knew before I came that ceiling fans are the only ... form of cooling in the hotel. If you need AC, do not come here. My room suffered from a lack of attention to maintenance and detail. The room was large enough but cheap furniture was crowded into one small section of the room. (One chair was not even accessible). I had a very uncomfortable mattress (either old, cheap or both)The wall to wall carpeting was dingy and pulled away from the walls in places, creating rolls in the carpeting. The bathroom had no vanity for toiletries, but only a small glass shelf above the pedestal sink. The staff on site during my stay barely spoke or understood English. I asked to speak with the Concierge and was connected to the gift shop. Overall, I was very disappointed in what could have been a very pleasant experience. Too bad that the current owners don't have enough respect for the hotel's past to take it's well worn interiors into the future at least polished and well-cared for.

Beautiful historic hotel
Beverly Aug 1, 2007
The Hotel Colorado was a beautiful victorian hotel and it had a lot of history behind it. The suite that we had was very ... nice. The biggest draw back with this hotel is that it does not have air conditioning. It does have ceiling fans and they will provide a floor fan upon request. This is a great hotel for the cooler part of the year and not the summer. It is right across the street from the hot springs pool which is very nice. They have a wonderful outdoor restaurant which is perfect in the evenings with the water fountain in the background. The workout room is more for hard core free weight people and not for the more modern workout. They have historical pictures hanging all over the hotel that is quite interesting.

My review of Hotel Colorado
melissa Jul 24, 2007
It was nice to stay in a historical landmark. The bath in the room was very spacious and updated. The hotel is very ... pet-friendly and our two dogs and us felt very welcomed by the staff. There was a large walk-in closet for clothing. The restaurants had good food, somewhat on the expensive side, room service was quick to provide late night snack and there was a beautiful court yard for dining in the evening. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

My review of Hotel Colorado
Francis Jul 20, 2007
I love the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Sprgs. CO. I find the rooms very clean the shower adequate and the TV and desk ... appropriate. The only problem i have ever noticed is a lack of airconditioning (remeber this is in the mountains and you usually do not need airconditioning in the mountains). The location is perfect for walking everywhere in town. It has wonderful Colorado mountain charm.
