Best place to stay in Aspen

It's right in the middle of town, good breakfast, indoor hot tub, and helpful staff. You really can't do any better in Aspen.

Can't remember the name of the place, a tiny deli on Monarch and Main. A definite "Must eat there."

Killer Location in Aspen

I couldn't have asked for a better location. The pool is really terrific. The continental breakfast (plus hard boiled eggs, bacon & sausages) was very tasty, and the kitchen staff was very pleasant. The staff was wonderfully accommodating. I had paid for the cheapest room and got one in the basement. It was a bit dark, had an English basement window that looked right out onto the street and had a weak wi-fi signal. I asked if I could switch to another room, and the very next day, they put me in a fantastic room on the third floor at no extra charge.

Not a place I would recommend or stay at

Hotel may at one time be a place to stay, but no longer. Run down, very noisy, no air conditioning. Location is good but that is all I can say in favor of it.

Great Bargain in Aspen

The hotel is old and a little funky, but provides amenities people really want in a great location at bargain rates by Aspen standards. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. It will be our first choice on our next visit, no contest.

I will return

The location was very convenient, the staff was nice, room was good. 5th floor bar was fantastic and the bartender was really nice and knowledgeable. Big pool and hot tub, sauna, laundry, rec room, gym, it had it all.

Best location, inexpensive, but...

This was a fun experience for a specific taste. It seemed like a stay at an uncle's cabin with relatives you never knew you had, but who are friendly and eager to get along. You will most likely not want to spend much time in your room because the rooms are tired and the bathrooms are tiny. No money was wasted on decorating or updating. The common areas are welcoming and rustic with plenty of opportunities to mingle with the other guests. The hot tub, steam room, sauna, heated pool and workout room give you plenty of reason to get out of your room. They also have free wireless, and two community computers available in the lobby. There is free underground parking, but space is very limited. Once you have parked your car, you probably won't need it for the rest of your stay. You are about three blocks away from the ski lift, and right at the edge of the downtown. You couldn't have a better location. The hotel is noisy with wooden staircases right outside of your door and creaky floors above. Make sure you get a room with air conditioning in the summer or forget about sleeping due to outside noise. We had a hungry mouse in our room on the second night. When we reported it to the front desk they said it was the first report they had this Fall, (our visit was during the first week of October), and attributed it to the cooling weather. I overheard other guests at breakfast talking about mice in their rooms so it wasn't just us. With that in mind, make sure you mouse proof the food in your room. Like I said, this hotel is for a particular taste. We enjoyed our stay there, but we had a log cabin attitude to the whole thing.

Warm month suggestion: If you want an easy and refreshing walk that is close to nature and close to the hotel then stroll along the Rio Grande River Trail just across from the Visitor's Center.

Great value in fantastic location

Location! Location! Location! This hotel is for the value minded traveler who will spend most time enjoying surrounding activities. It is an older hotel that features old world ski charm. It is not shiny and fancy, but instead has a warm family feel, great staff, is super clean, and, has all the basics plus a few extras. A great spa/workout facility! It is located in the downtown core next to all the main restaurants, shops and gondola. Come without a vehicle, or drive in and park it until departure.

The Hickory House Restaurant (about 1 mile, or 12 blocks) has great ribs. We went on a Tuesday at noon, and a FULL rack of baby back ribs were on special for $11.75.
