Guests at Sunset Marquis Hotel can indulge their inner celebrities at this private hotel sanctuary. Sunset Marquis has served as safe haven for the famous, the infamous and the nearly so, for nearly five decades. The serene garden oasis has served as home-away-from-home to rock legends, Mad Men, fashionistas and discerning travelers. Located in West Hollywood, the Sunset Marquis offers an oasis that is just steps from the excitement and chaos of the legendary Sunset Strip but seems a million miles away. As you enter, you are greeted with the fragrant smell of the lush, floral gardens that offer seclusion as you make your way to private accommodations. Retreat to a personal poolside cabana to soak up the perfect L.A. weather and keep an eye out, because you never know who might make an appearance. The Villas at the Sunset Marquis are one of the worlds best-kept secret havens. These private, luxurious villas set new standards for modern zen in terms of both design and tranquillity, while still retaining the rock and roll spirit that made the Marquis legendary. Clustered in two-story Mediterranean-style Casitas, with modern, elegant interiors, and set in verdant, peaceful gardens containing over 4000 full-grown plants and trees, a sojourn in a Marquis Villa is more akin to a visit to a private, subtropical estate. The experience is complemented by 24-hour butler service and for those in the Presidential Villa, a Bentley is at your beck-and-call. Executive Chef Guillaume Burlion believes food should speak for itself. The vibe is California casual, the cuisine market fresh, the service second to none. For four-star ambiance in a stylish restaurant setting, dine indoors. For al fresco dining under the sun or stars, you cannot beat the garden view from the patio of RESTAURANT. The Sunset Marquis offers ideal accommodations that have been coveted by the elite for years.

Rock and Roll and Mostly Up to Date

The hotel is beautifully laid out and the location could not be better -- the Los Angeles we dream of! The service was impeccable -- each staff member we encountered was friendlier than the last. Food was great and the restaurant was incredibly pretty - it was a place you'd invite friends to. Only housekeeping left something to be desired -- they only sort of moved things around and didn't give the feeling they'd really cleaned. Also, through [...] we booked a "superior" room, which was very shabby and needed renovation. Luckily, we were able to arrange an inexpensive upgrade to a villa which was much preferable, cleaner and newer -- although still dark and our two kids still had to sleep on two couches -- for a premium room!

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

I never go to Los Angeles without visiting Fred Segal Melrose at least once or twice. I was thrilled to located nearly walking distance (although I wouldn't dream of showing up there on foot).

Beautiful hotel..bad service

The hotel was very beautiful, food was fantastic, beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The services wasn't so hot. The majority of the staff gave us dirty looks and treated up like we should have been there, so we stayed in out room most of the time. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone because of the service.

Great location, wonderful hotel/service

We love the Sunset Marquis & will definitely be back to stay there again when in LA. This was our first time staying there and we were so impressed with the service, the location, and the beautiful hotel, including the grounds and the room. I had booked a Jr. Suite and had called the day before we checked in to request a room with a pool view, as it was my husband's birthday and I wanted to ensure we had a nice view. The hotel clerk was so nice and friendly and confirmed a room with a pool view. When we arrived to check in the next day, the hotel clerk immediately wished my husband a happy birthday and informed us that they had taken the liberty of upgrading us (free of charge) to a delux suite to make our stay and my husband's birthday all the more special. Our room was amazing. We were on the 1st floor and our suite opened up right to the main pool, with 2 sun chairs right outside the bedroom. The bed, was incredible! It was so nicely made and inviting. There were 8 large down pillows and a huge down comforter over the down pillow top over the matress...it was like a giant Heavenly marshmallow. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful...you definitely don't feel as though you're in LA. However, you still have the convenience of being right in the heart of West Hollywood, as it is right off the Sunset Strip. The grounds are lush, green, and private. There are 2 pools which are flanked by lounges, cabanas, and nice big beds to lay out on. The service at the pools is wonderful as well. My husband and I enjoyed laying out and drinking cocktails and walking around the property...where we happened to come across Orlando Bloom in passing. That night we had dinner reservtions at the Water Grill in downtown LA...the valet was quick and efficient in getting us our car and the restaurant was only 20 minutes from the hotel, including traffic. After dinner we returned to the hotel to drop off our car and the valet promptly called us a cab to take us to a club a mile away on Santa Monica Blvd. for a b-day party. After returning to the hotel around 1:30 am, we stopped in at Bar 1200 for one more night cap and enjoyed the dark, loung-y vibe. Afterwards we retired to our suite and slept soundly in the marshmallow bed. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We had a wonderful time and felt compeltely spoiled our entire stay, which was only one night, but still, we had an amzing time and will definitely be back. Also, the toiletries in the rooms include a large assortment of Aveda products...a big plus!

How to get the under 30 crowd to visit

Lovely stay. Super comfy bed. Great staff. I even got hugs! I liked the music playing in common areas. Way cool. Needed a groovy hotel to attract my son's friends, denizens of the tribes of Sunset.Didn't try pool, cloudy & rainy day.
