Ugh
I booked this hotel mainly because of the location extremely close to the nearby NASA research station. The hotel itself is in fairly poor condition, and the rooms badly need new carpeting, or at least a good cleaning of the carpets. However, the terrible experience I had did not relate to the dated and dirty carpet. I returned late one evening from a full day of work and dinner with colleagues, and my room key didn't work. I went to the lobby and they gave me a new key, which also did not work. After a third attempt, they finally attempted a master key, which also did not get me into the room. Eventually, they had to call their manitenance guy who was at home sleeping, and he drove over and attempted to get in by re-programming the lock. Also, didn't work. Finally, the maintenance man had to get a ladder and break the bathroom mirror for me to get in to the room. I did get put in another room upon insisting that I would not sleep in a room with a broken window, but I could tell that the manager on duty would prefer that I sleep in that room. No partial refund was offered to compensate for the extremely long time I had to wait locked out of the room. Needless to say, I will not return.

New Management?
If the hotel is under new management, I would hate to see the old. The first hotel room key I was given opened to a room that was occupied. Not a good start. Went back and got a key that was for an unoccupied room. The room was average, nothing special. Not something to right home about. And the staff wasn't overly friendly, nor did they snarl at me. Overall, not bad, but rooms could use a bit more TLC. On the plus side it was super close to the 101.

Good location. Nice staff. Basic facilities.
It's close to major highways, which makes it suitable if you have a lot of meetings in the area. The room was comfortable, except for the short timer on the lights. The light just keeps going out while you're in the room, taking a shower, etc. WiFi reception in the room was a bit shaky.

Overall great stuff ... security/privacy concerns
good hotel, clean rooms, extremely accommodating staff, overall fantastic. watch out for (privacy/security): rooms don't have drapes so the master window is always partially transparent. the master window had a small shrubbery/partition and was open to the main road (security !!!). and although the neighborhood seemed safe, it was challenging leaving a laptop etc open on the table as it could potentially be seen by trespassers.

better than expected
They were sold out of rooms and upgraded me to a better room. The breakfast was something to be desired.. waffle maker, toast, bagels, canned fruit, OJ, apple juice, and coffee. Complimentary wifi internet was great. Room was clean. TV was ok.

Good Value
Stayed at this hotel because it was convenient to work site. Amenities were good. The only problem was a large, very loud group stayed near my room and prevented a good nights rest. The staff could have addressed the issue, but did not.

Best in Class Value
The Sundowner is a pleasant discovery in the South Bay. I am a frequent traveller to Silicon Valley and have found the hotel to be better in all areas than most others in this price range. Worth trying
