PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW!

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. During the 2nd night of our stay the hotel door malfunctioned and would not open from the inside! I kid you not, we were trapped in our room. We had to take the screen off of the window, reach out, and unlock the door from the outside with the key-card. When I complained to mgmt and asked to be moved they told me there was nothing they could do and suggested I leave my door open all night and keep reaching out the window to unlock the door...seriously?! They also told me this was the third time this had happened and they refused, even after many requests and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, to give a partial refund or discount. I mean, what sort of hospitality business service does that??? Having us locked in the room was a serious fire hazard. The mgmt obviously has no regard for your comfort or safety and only cares about a few bucks. Do whatever you can to NOT stay here. Highland Inn = Dangerous.

Customer service poor.

Clean room, good price, Tony the front desk manager needs to learn customer service. Power went out twice, tried to blame the people downstairs for using a hair dryer as the reason the power went out. The people downstairs were my in laws. Sorry Tony not true. Would not move our room, kept saying more or less, not my problem. His solution turn off the t.v. and the air conditioner. Caution grumpy old man at the front desk that doesn't care if you are satisfied. Moe the owner should perform a attitude check on his main man. Moe must not care either.

Perfect, easy getaway!

The perfect location. I was able to stay with my dog. We walked everywhere. We took evening walks down to the lake to watch the sunset. The room had free internet and a HUGE TV. The fridge was college size which was perfect.

Wonderful value -- I'll be back

I had read reviews on this hotel, which helped me be confident that it would be a good experience for a great rate...and it was. The room was small, but stylish. I had read that some people have problems with the electricity, especially when drying hair. We did not experience any such problem. The hotel is very close to lots of things to do. I'll definitely return there with my family. One caution: It's hit-and-miss trying to communicate with the hotel staff by phone. I tried to call and find out if the hotel had high-speed wireless internet (it does), and the attendant couldn't understand my question -- the call quality was really bad, and the desk attendant can't hear very well, I think.

There is a Nestle-Toll House cafe just up the street, by the Heavenly Gondola. Best ice-cream sandwich of my life!

Needs to be Cleaner

the hotel was close to the venue to see Alison Krauss and was very reasonable $49 so I booked it because it got 3.5 stars and the photos looked pretty good. It's an OLD hotel they appear to be trying to update. Nice bathroom sink, great flat screen TV. 2 funky beds, and the air conditioner cord ran from under the window, across the middle of the floor and UNDER the bed (which was a frame on the floor to a questionalble connection in the wall behind the second bed. Floors very dusty and dirty floor behind the door in the bathroon was DIRTY and needed to be wet mopped. Couldn't connect to the internet at the hotel, but could access the Holiday Inn one door down the street. Front desk didn't answer the room phone and the office was locked up tight at 10pm. No lock on bathroom window (first floor too!) Frig was cold, room was warm nice NEW white fluffy towels.

Great price

Cute place with a great price & great location. Walking distance to a lot! The room & br was on the small side but does have a mini fridge, which is nice! The owners/managers are some nice guys, a little strange, but take care of the place! Our fridge was broke, so they replaced it within a few minutes

nice, clean, and close to casinos

The highland inn was very clean, the rooms are newly remodeled and it was very close to the casinos, shopping, and Starbucks. The rooms are pretty small, but big enough for a couple. There are fridges in the rooms, but no coffee makers. The staff was very friendly. Great hotel for the price. I will stay there again.

Nice place

We love staying here at the Highland Inn because of the price and location, not far to the casinos. Best of all is the price. Other hotels/motels nearby charge way more for the same amenities. Also it seems like the Highland Inn has made some improvements. This will always be our first choice.

Great trip

If your looking for a clean, comfortable room at a great price that is in the heart of South Lake Tahoe this is your place! Ten minute walk to the farthest casino. Room was small but clean and newly renovated. Wifi did not work but there is a Starbucks across the street if you really need to get online. Overall it was a good place to say without breaking the bank!!
