Lower expectations
First, we were charged additional amount after pre paid reservation. One-star is a generous rating for a tiny old room, lack of security bolt, refrigerator, micro wave, coffee pot, air dryer, with pushing staff, tight parking, noise from 3 neighbors, cheap mattress, cheap ploy blanket, fake orange juice, and other surprises fit to ruin my vacation. It's good value if you hover just above ground level.

Best Tahoe West Inn
I satay at Best Tahoe West for one night with my 2 kids. The room was very spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple but nice: wafels and bagels. It is not fancy hotel but it is great for the money. I would highly recommend this hotel for budget travelers.

Great Value But Wifi Iffy
I had a very solid experience. I was traveling on business and stayed three nights. It was very quiet and peaceful. (MIght be different in peak season) Everything was clean and worked. The sheets and towels were thin. The furniture, bed covers and curtains were old. A new paint job would brighten the room. The bed was comfortable. The fitness center consisted of a treadmill and a bench press and some dumbbells. My room was huge. It contained a big table with four chairs, a comfy armchair, and a kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The soap and toiletries were organic. The location is great - you are mere blocks from casinos and the gondola and shopping and dining. Lake Tahoe and a big sand beach are only blocks away in the other direction. Hotel is several streets off the main drag which makes it quiet. The wifi in the room was really weak. Slow and intermittent. You can use the lobby computers and the wifi signal is excellent in the lobby. I didnt try the breakfast.

so-so
The staff was nice and the hotel was easy access to everything in South Lake Tahoe. The room was fine as far as being clean. My major gripes would be that the blanket looked like it was something that had been around since 1985. The bed was a little saggy but the box spring was stained on the sides. Looked to be blood or something brown. If you are going to have a box spring that looks like that maybe they should invest in some bed skirts. Also the towels were about as soft as sand paper.

Not the Best in the West
A great location can excuse a lot of flaws, but in the case of this hotel, the balance has tipped to the negative. For starters, the door lock was loose, nearly broken, making it hard to even get into the room. The latch on the sliding door to the rotting deck, likewise, was hard to operate. They'd rigged a light metal bar, already bent, to increase security. The TV was small, barely working. While checking email on the lobby computer, one guest checking out said their TV would not permanently turn off because the knob was broken, explaining to the front desk person: "it kept coming on to Channel 6. It happened all night." To spruce up the joint, they're painting the exercise room (one tread mill and some hand weights) lavander. The bed spreads were new in the 1970s -- slick olive green that looked greasy. The continental breakfast was lousey. I could go on and on. But, the young staff was friendly and helpful. We walked to casinos, the Heavenly Gondola, and a lovely private beach. The pool isn't bad. This place was no bargain.
