The Sonora Inn was built in 1896 and originally named the Hotel Victoria. The Inns' rich historic charm and small town hospitality has lured and played host to many notables and celebrities including Grace Kelly during the filming of High Noon and more recently Drew Barrymore while she worked on the film Bad Girls. The hotels architecture has been changed over the years from Victorian to now the popular California Mission style of the 1920s that hosted Hollywood's elite during the golden era of tourism and film making. The Historic Sonora Inn was completely restored/remodeled in early part of 2012. Lobby has antique pieces ,picture frames, chandeliers and more all blend harmoniously together making for a warm elegant environment . All rooms of historic building has been tastefully remodeled to keep its historic charm while adding all the modern comforts. Hotel also offers free breakfast for all hotel room guests.

I reserved way ahead of time. Got there no reservation in their system - said they usually get faxes.I had my proof in my hand. So my room was already given away and they had king rooms, that I watched go and a tiny full bed room left which was saved for me while I contacted cheap tickets to straighten this out. So check to make sure you are in their system before arriving. It was clean and function able but very cramped. OK for 1. I usually do business with another hotel in the area when I bring a work crew in. This place is good for a get a way I will probably try it again in the future.

Charming Hotel in the Heart of Sonora

Greeted warmly by an excellent front desk staff who were both professional and friendly. Offered a dinner discount coupon at check in good at six local restaurants all within walking distance. Excellent location in the heart of downtown Sonora, lots of shops and places to eat within a short walk. Older property from the 1890s that has recently been remolded and re-decorated. Room was super clean and comfortable, no view but the mini-suite layout made up for that. Breakfast offered is standard american continental, nothing spectacular. Only complaint was it took forever to get hot water in the bathroom sink or shower - minor delay for a wonderful and relaxing time.

I liked the old charm of this hotel.

I arrived on a Friday evening and ate dinner at Chris's Italian resturant downstairs. I met a friend of mine thereand the food was great! My room was nice an clean, the bed was super comfortable, and had nice ffurnishings. The bathroom was old charm. It was quiet all night so I had no trouble sleeping. The complimentry breakfast had enough selections to satisfy me. All was good including the coffee. I plan to stay there again soon as the location was perfect for walking to all the shps along the main street in front of this hotel.

needs t.l.c.

The heating unit was so so loud, couldn't stand to listen to it. The TV was nothing but static, and it turned off about 8pm and we couldn't get it to turn back on. The carpeting was pulling away from the wall near the bathroom, and was wrinkled across the floor. Location was great. It's an old hotel and needs lots of T.L.C. We won't stay there again.

Our room at Days Inn, Sonora

The room that was reserved for us was at best an old, dirty collage dorm room that was barely big enough for one person. The staff was awesome though. They were very apologetic and upgraded us to a better room... especially after seeing that my wife and I had our 7 month old with us. The room we were upgraded to was more than decent. Location was awesome. Walking distance to the fairgrounds and right in the center of downtown. I'll go back. (fyi, the suite was huge, but looked like something out of Kubrick's Overlook Hotel... which was perfect for Halloween)

Historic hotel or 60s-era motel?

We booked this historic hotel through Orbitz, but were given a room, instead, in the motel complex adjacent to the hotel. We rejected the first room for bad toilet smells and were given another similar room, absent the smells. It was ordinary and overpriced. If you book this hotel, be sure to specify that you want the hotel, and not the motel...

Not the historic hotel, but a motel

[...]we expected to be in the historic hotel, but were shipped across the street to the fifties-era motel, nothing special. First room had a smelly toilet, so we were transfered to another room in the "motel." This is just an old motel, and it's confusing about why we got a cheesy motel instead of an historic hotel room (where Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper stayed).[...]
