Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Short walk to the shops, bakeries, wine tastings, restaurants. There are 3 tasting shops that allow children which was very nice.

Comfortable Times

First a caution: the sign for the hotel does not say "America's Best Value Inn" -- It reads "Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge," which I assume is the actual name of the inn. So look for the address and not a "America's Best" sign or call ahead for the cross-streets. Save yourself several passes down the street trying to find the "America's" logo. Once I finally figured all this out, I had a very nice stay here. The room was clean, cozy and comfortable. Parking was easy and the grounds well appointed with a smallish pool and a hot tub. This is the kind of small, friendly place where you could stay a week while you explore Solvang since the room included a microwave and many of the comforts of home. The free continental breakfast was a good way to start the day. The breakfast pastries are kept behind the desk. however, and handed out one at a time apparently. So don't count on stocking up for your drive home. I enjoyed my stay and would return if I traveled to Solvang again in the future. I will bring a personal supply of pastries, however.

There is a wonderful danish pastry shop a block away on Copenhagen Drive with incredibly fresh treats. Look for the sample pastries in the window.

Enjoyed our trip to Solvang

The hotel is located just accross the Mission, close to the stores and all places to be seen in Solvang. The hotel staff was very friendly, provided maps for the city and explained in detail where to see and other places around: waterfall, miniatur horse riding, etc. Breakfast seemed very good: although we had breakfast in one of the bakery in town. Hotel's architecture was attractive, rooms were ok, we haven't used the pool, but seemed good: people were enjoying,

Close to everything

Close to shopping, casino, and restaurants. Rooms were a little noisy with thin walls. Otherwise, old but very clean. Great danishes in the morning!

Friendly staff at good location

Arrived mid-day Sunday. Had a business meeting starting Monday morning and ending Wednesday @ noon. Wanted to do hit some wineries prior to catching the game. Room was functional and clean. Nothing fancy but dated. No gym but pool. Room was heated by wall heater that once got going, kept room comfortable. TV was old model but they did have almost 80 channels. Was a little concerned about the locks on doors. Could be upgraded. Hotel on "main drag" of Solvang. Close to "downtown" and about 1 mile from road to take you to Los Olivos / Santa Ynez and wineries. Food in Solvang still an issue. Asked staff who delivered and they mentioned a pizza joint that they "all loved." Had it delivered and it was as plain as the box it was delivered in. Asked them about breakfast and they recommended a place that served stuff about as tasty as the pizza. So don't go to Solvang for food. Overall, paid less than $90 for 1 night with a decent location. Able to catch the game, get to the wineries, and check out quickly. So not bad.

Root 246 was O.K. and compared to all of the other places tried. Not a destination restaurant but nice and hope the food continues to improve.

Enjoyable Hotel

The hotel is wonderful, clean, big room, and friendly staff. I would suggest the breakfast with more variety food, and the staff is able to stay to wait for the late check in guest, especialy for the holiday season, because of the traffic may cause late checking in.

Solvang-CA

-Hotel bed was way past its prime (lumpy); and Exterior needed pressure washing to freshen up the facility.-Had difficulty locating the hotel at first because [...]indicated that hotel title was "America's Best Value Hotel"... not "Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge". The sign in front of hotel had "America's Best Value" as very small font. After searching many times up and down the main street for it, I had to call hotel to get directions, relative local landmarks.

We ate at the Viking Pub and split a sausage sampler plate and dinner salad. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service. A wide variety of tap beers. We shared a picture of Fat Tire. Resonable prices for the area.
