Close to nightlife: convenient but may not be restful

We stayed over a Saturday night, and there are several bars/music venues down the street, so there was some loud music, and then some loud outdoor talk. That wasn't too bad, but what was annoying was the hot rods that revved their engines for about five minutes on the street outside of the hotel/rooms sometime after closing. That was pretty lame. The room was fine, and everything worked, but since we didn't get a great night's sleep I don't rate it that well. I realize those things are outside of the hotel's control, but it may impact your rest should you choose to stay there during the weekend.

Snarky staff

An otherwise perfect stay except for staff. One hand didn't know what the other one was doing, lots of finger pointing, lack of communication between shifts and managers. They need to be retrained in customer service. Building beautiful and charming. Location pretty good.

Great Little Getaway

I'm a local from Sonoma County, but I live in SF with my boyfriend and I wanted to show him around wine country and wanted to stay in a hotel in a nice area. Came across this hotel because I knew it was in a beautiful spot in the Historic Railroad Square because it was around fantastic stores & restaurants. The restaurant within the hotel was so pretty and the decor was elegant, they provide a delicious gourmet breakfast, lunch & especially dinner. It was a great choice for us & couldn't be happier with all places we visited for the little weekend getaway from the big city.

disappointed get away

When we arrived we were made to wait 10 minutes while the clerk was on the phone for a clearly non emergent reason. The room was not made up until late afternoon with the excuse "we have a full house." WHAT? When you have a full house, you have more staff. Even though there is a bar and resraurant at the hotel, no menus in the room, which would have been nice. The room itself was so-so, bed comfortable enough, and the location very good.

Nice location

While the staff was courteous, I did not find them to be overly friendly or helpful. We were in the annex across the street and the room was fine - nothing special in size or amenities. Only one suitcase stand, and no where else to set the other suitcase except the floor. I was expecting a little more based on the reviews, and I guess I expected too much. Perhaps the main hotel was more spectacular or historic. Our room seemed ordinary to me - and very dark so hard to read at night. The location was great for coffee and being close to restaurants and a good home base for winery tours and a trip to Bodega Bay. Nice to have free parking too.

Nice place

Very nice historic hotel, very small but still very quiet and clean. Awesome bed linens. This is the first hotel I've had with an actual "key" in quite a few years but I didn't mind. Very safe, clean, and quaint. Great restaurant downstairs, too. Awesome breakfast for a reasonable price. I'd stay there again for sure.

Historic hotel is historic

I never fully understood what a "historic hotel" meant until now. Basically, it's like visiting your grandmother's house or going to a quaint hotel in Europe. We had a suite that included a sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom. All the furniture looked like original antiques with newer upholstery. The bathroom was antique style. There is an attached restaurant but it was in mid-transfer to a new owner and under construction when we were there. Hotel parking is one block away. There is no valet parking. The ice machine is only accessible by the hotel staff. There is no fridge or microwave in the room but, they have free Internet. The self-serve continental breakfast is extremely simple (toast, juice, coffee, tea, muffin, fruit, bagel). If you're looking for pancakes, waffles, or eggs, you won't find it here. We went to a local breakfast place instead. The hotel is located in the heart of the historic center of Santa Rosa. Everything is within walking distance. The bottomline is that if you're used to chain hotels, you may not like this one. If you're looking for some old world charm then, this is a great hotel.

Unique and enjoyable experience

Nice and quaint. Centrally located for wine touring; however difficult to get around in the city.

Charming, good value

just a quick overnight stay as we were visiting family in the area. We stayed in the carriage house which is across the street from the main hotel. It was charming and quiet with a nice balcony, rose along the perimeter of the courtyard by a fountain. A very good continental breakfast was served and the price was very fair.
