The Hotel California

Stayed one night for business. Hotel was right price & location and I booked it just one week out. Not the cleanest or nicest hotel room, but had character, comfy beds and fun decor. Not many power outlets in the room. Had to charge my phone in the bathroom, for example. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of. Good service from the front desk. Continental breakfast is fruit & muffin selection with coffee station set up in lobby/desk area. "Free Internet" is here, on one computer, too.

Arrived at 4 and room was not ready. Hotel is convenient and close to beach. Very Spartan accommodations but clean. Fair amount of noise in hallway at night. Room # 4 is next door to laundry room so if someone's doing laundry, you are too. Front desk staff very helpful. This hotel fits the vibe of Santa Monica.

I found the hotel in need of a lot of maintenance and upkeep. The furniture was stained, outdated and in poor condition. The floors had not been cleaned and the bathroom was filthy. It was difficult to take a shower because there was so much green and black mold in the grout of the tile. Parking was very limited, as well.

You can't beat this hotel in location, it is so close to the beach! The rooms are nice with huge bathrooms, but the plumbing didn't work great all the time. It was a nice stay for us as a couple to relax and enjoy each other at the beach.

I loved staying at the Hotel California. It has a funky, but attractive style. The room service is a little irregular, but requests are always answered. I felt that it offered everything I want in a hotel. It was very close to the beach, which we viewed from our deck; the bed was very comfortable; the plumbing worked well; and the room was very attractive and appealing.

There were several unpleasant surprises at this hotel. Arriving late I found out there was not sufficient parking for all guests and had to park at another hotel. There was one free terminal in the registration area to serve all the guests. There were refrigerators in the rooms but the temperature control knob was missing in mine. There was no thermostat for controlling room temperature. The toilet was incredibly noisey. When I did ask about a place to grab a late night drink I was told that the nearest bar was some 8 blocks away, tho next day I discovered one two blocks away. But the bed was incredibly comfortable. And access to the Santa Monica beach very handy. Also access to major highways was excellent. Both the 10 and Pacific Coast high way were a few blocks away and well marked with signage.
