Worth a repeat visit
We were very happy with our choice to stay here. Our room was a bit dated and the advertised balcony was not really usable (size) but those are the only quibbles. I liked the location and the convenience of the provided "Taxi". You can safely walk to the nearby shops - we walked a couple of blocks to the Whole Foods for a bottle of wine. The hotel was very quiet and private - it was rare to see another resident except at the provided fresh breakfasts of fruit, pastry, breads, yogurt... The bathroom was large which my wife liked. The staff was always friendly and helpful and know the area - we got some very reliable restaurant recommendations and sight seeing advice. I'll definitely consider staying here again when we return.

My son and I travel to Calif. from Oregon so that he can see a specialist in Bakersfield. We originally stayed at The Ambrose because it was near my oldest son but he has since moved in with us. Nonetheless, the helpfulness of the staff, general calmness of the environment and convenient location guarantee that we'll continue to go back. We spend many hours in the car going to the doctor and then coming back but I consider this hotel to be such a gift that I can't imagine staying anywhere else. The bed alone assures me of a good night's sleep but that is just one of many reasons to stay here.

Drive to 16th and Montana and treat yourself to a frozen yogurt at Pink Berry. The sour flavors are fantastic and the fruit is always fresh and sweet. If only we had this in Oregon!

Wonderful Experience
Beautiful boutique hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable rates and free parking. The room was very clean and spacious with very nice decor and comfortable beds and pillows. They even had a nice complimentary shuttle in the form of a old London taxi. I think is the first hotel I have ever reviewed because it is so nice.

A great surprise
In the la area for a wedding and extended the trip. Went to the 3rd St promenade the farmers Market laguna beach Malibu. Hollywood Beverly hills. La is another big city. We lived in the ny area so la was interesting but not special. Too much traffic.

Nice,convenient place
Recently my wife,my friend & I needed a place to stay to attend my best friend's funeral. I luckily found The Ambrose amidst all the chain hotels.I selected it due to it's location and was pleasantly surprised by it's terrific staff. They were very accommodating. The service was at 1 pm & check in was at 3 pm but they found a way for all of us to change clothes in time for the service. The fact that the hotel is elegantly designed and beautiful was an added bonus.It might be a few dollars more but is well worth it.

Great location for the price

Very quiet boutique hotel in a mixed commercial/residential neighborhood. Our room was quite sizeable, staff was understated but welcoming. I would recommend it for anyone who wants accommodations away from the madding crowds, traffic and headaches. Not for the jetset types.
