Retro chic beachfront surf city resort on the sand
Only in Santa Cruz is retro so cool. Instead of tearing down this 1960s relic, hoteliers embraced and retrofitted the 10-story property fronting Cowell's longboard wave as a chic boutique hotel in 2008. The only beachfront pool in Santa Cruz, fresh seafood and a flashy drink menu capture the free-spirited personality of this beach town while making it one of the coolest places to sleep on the northern Cali coast. All rooms view Monterey Bay. A set of binoculars comes in each room to help guests spot sea lions. Walk to the pier and Beach Boardwalk.
Highlights
- The only four-star luxury hotel in Santa Cruz
- Beachfront deck has a heated pool, hot tub, kids wading pool, deck chairs, bar and fire pits
- 100 percent non-smoking
- Aquarius Restaurant serves sustainable seafood in unbeatable oceanfront setting
- Free Wi-Fi
Rooms
Santa Cruz Dream Inn is built so that all 165 rooms have ocean views from private balconies. Swanky, surfer-cool decor is sparse and bright with rich greens and deep browns calling to mind redwood forests. High-tech amenities include free W-Fi Internet access, iPod docs and flat-screen HDTVs. In-room safes fit laptops. Bathrooms have rainwater showerheads, plush robes and Lush bath products. Extras such as refrigerators, bathtubs and poolside patios can be requested.
Features
From the street, the big-box Dream Inn is an understated white building. From the water, it's a different story. Occupying prime beachfront, the swimming pool deck has the makings of a modern beach party with a full service bar, fire pits and deck chairs. Inside, surfboards line the bar ceiling like light fixtures casting a glow on soul surfer patrons. The water's edge view at Aquarius restaurant impresses all kinds of water lovers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner might feature local farmers market veggies, Tomales Bay oysters and halibut ceviche, always within the guidelines of environmentally-sound seafood harvesting programs. Room service and children's menus are available.

Great Anniversary Stay
My husband and I have wanted to stay at the Dream Inn for about 25 years and finally on our 48th wedding anniversary we made it. Everyone at the hotel was great and we even got a piece of very decadent Chocolate cake ( on the house). What a wonderful location and great staff. Also very nice to have valet parking. We will do it again! (and not wait so long)

Great hotel, but---
The hotel is a rat maze trying to find the beach door, the stairs which lead to the pool and then to the beach are steep, not friendly to someone with a bad back or anyother disability

View was fantastic; price was outrageous
Room was nice, clean, great view of the ocean. Valet service was very good. However the price for the room was very high and the only amenity (sp?) was coffee in the room. No continental breakfast or anything like that. Hotel advertises on website that they have boogie boards to LOAN to customers. Grandson went to borrow one and they said it was broken and that was the only one they had. Man was pulled from pool -- don't know if he suffered heart attack or what, but no one on staff performed CPR; guests that were around the pool pulled the man out and performed CPR. Staff was not organized as far as calling 911 immediately and overall the situation was not handled properly. Hotel is close to Boardwalk, however you have to walk up a pretty steep hill to get to and from the Boardwalk. I don't think I would stay at this hotel again.

Amazing hotel
The hotel was great and the location was perfect. Hotel has a fantastic pool and spa overlooking the ocean. Hotel has its own access to the beach. Rooms were beautiful with the most amazing views of the ocean, wharf, and boardwalk. Simply amazing. Restuarant onsite was good..a little pricey for the quality but a nice environment. The only draw back was the room location. We had room (327) which was nice but right accross from the ice machine and laundry room. We intended to sleep in being that we had no children with us but that was not an option being right next to the ice machine and laundry room. Hotel was great just wish they would have taken our request for a great anniversery room a little more to heart in regards to our room location.

Close to Boardwalk
Great location for 1/2 marathon. Room was clean, great view. If you can sleep with the ongoing crashing waves then its fabulous. It seems like the better place to stay in comparison to other hotels near by. Location was ideal.

What a View
I had always wanted to stay at the Dream Inn and it was as great as I had imagined. The ocean view from the room is the best view in Santa Cruz. The staff was polite and helpful. The accommodations modern and spartan. I only wish there was a bathtub, but I figured that was to save water. I would have given it five stars if it weren't so expensive. But definitely worth it for one night.

DISAPPOINTING, and DIRTY
Bathroom smelled like urine, but that was just the smell of the water. The black mold in the shower, on the other hand, was totally unacceptable.

I might think about staying there again.
They did allow me to check in a bit earlier than 4pmThey did put a $100.00 hold on my card (I didn't like that surprise)I got a $25.00 food credit for the restaurant [...] -Thank you. (Room service is 19% surcharge with 9.5% tax and $3.00 fee off the top)Fish and chips were good and was about $15.00My room was nice it had a tub, one suite had only had a shower and the shower head hurt I was told. The shower head in my room was fine.No free breakfast meal and no gym but a great pool and jacuzzi (I didn't take my swim suit though, weather was suppose to be cold)Weather was actually sunny and bright. Annual Clam Chowder contest in town, that was cool! The ocean view was nice, one microwave on alternate floors. Ice Machines on alternate floors. I think it was overpriced - but did have flat screen tvs. Robes, stylish settings, but if you had a suite and plan on sleeping on a sofa bed in the suite don't get the room by the elevator (you will hear it for a bit)I think I will stay at the Ramada next time a round.
