National 9 Santa Cruz

Location left a lot to be desired, it was just off the end of the freeway from San Jose. Room was adequate, not spectacular, and it served it's purpose. No fridge or coffee pot, but they didn't claim to have them either. The staff were friendly and helpful, they printed out my boarding passes for me for my flight home.

They got me confused with someone else and had to figure it out. The women could not speak English and her husband had to figure it out. It was a smoking room which I specified I didn't want initially. It was clean at least but really old and funky. They didn't have a plug to use on the bathtub.

This hotel was only rated as one star so I was reticent about reserving it- we were pleasantly surprised, the check in was friendly, the rooms were very nice- granit in the bathrooms, clean, very nice. It was reasonably priced for Santa Cruz which tends to be very pricey.

Overall my fiance and I were pleased with our stay. Not too far from the beach and boardwalk, but just far enough away to make driving a better alternative to walking. Staff was unfriendly and rude. Pool was very clean. Room was a bit outdated but clean overall. Good price, especially for our last minute reservation.

We had a cottage like room that was in the back behind the actual motel. I think we might stay in the same room next September!!

When I check in, the price are become defferent, my booking price is total charges: $368.00 (taxes not included), but the check in price is $404. Realy fraud.

It was graduation weekend for UC Santa Cruz so prices were inflated because of a room shortage in town. But friendly, helpful staff and a clean room made my stay good. Also, the location is right on the edge of town next to the roads to San Jose or points south.

Though pricing was fair to the market area two hotels at one hundred dollars to two hundred more dollars were better in staff friendlyness cleaner in looks,I, did look into one of their rooms, very appealing. Cost was a factor, but an old lumpy mattress with smelly old blankets and no air conditioning, makes me wonder...... the new tile floors in the bathroom were very nice......way to slippery as my wife slipped 2x because we showered and they failed to provide a proper mat.Lack of towels in the room, and when do two pillows that when checked out look like what I'v seen street people live with.Face it this place is old. I'll pass next time......to bad, for they will keep charging to much for what they offer...what no OJ and coffee, or stale donuts. Location is good,Denny's was across the street. Did I say a fan for cooling.
