Dirty Sheets!

The first thing was the hotel charged me another $10.00 when I arrived, I ask the cashier about the increased amount and she said it was taxes. . It seemed nice enough and clean at first, but the bed spreads had stains on them, and when I pulled back the blanket and top sheet to get in, there was dirt, it felt like sand! When I looked to see what it was I found black hair! The reading material they left in the room said they were going green and were only going to change the sheets every third day, they didn't say anything about not changing them in-between guest, maybe they were conserving water. We were on the bottom floor and it sounded like some one was moving furniture and slaming doors upstairs, over and over. Also things kept falling on the floor when we went to set them down because the furniture was miniture. The other thing is there wasn't a hair dryer and no shampoo or conditioner, which I needed because I forgot, but on the plus side they left me a brush with hair tangled in it in case I forgot that too. The location was good.

Great location, charming vibe, small rooms

The room was a bit small but other than that, our Motel 6 stay was excellent. The extras are minimal - don't expect more than a working TV and a few clean towels, but the service was fast and friendly; the room clean and pleasant. The view is beautiful on either side of the motel (you'll get either mountains or the ocean). Effortless walk to the beach and easy access to the Santa Barbara Zoo and the downtown area.

Better than expected.

Stayed in town for UCSB's graduation for my daughter. I took this hotel because it was the only one between Santa Maria and Anaheim for under $500 for one night. There was only a one night minimum which also was a big plus. The reviews were mixed. Decided a place to keep us from sleeping in the car was all we needed. We were very pleased with our stay. It seemed clean, organized and well kept for a Motel 6. I have stayed in some doozers over the years. The neighborhood was not the best but it was not a problem for us. No racket to keep us awake. Felt safe. No wierdos hanging around the hotel area. They try to give it a modern decorating touch. Cute for the rating. The fact that it is the 1st ever Motel 6 in the world is a fun historical fact. We would have appreciated them having a cork-screw on site since we forgot to bring one. Bummer for us. There was, however, fresh coffee in the lobby the next morning. My compliments to the managers.

You're paying for the beach.

The hotel is less than half a block from the beach, but the only part of the hotel with a beach view is the miniscule pool. The tiny rooms have been remodeled in an ultra-modern style with all hard surfaces. This multiplied the noise from the rooms next door. Hotel is close to the zoo and not far from the pier. But you'll need to drive to all other attractions. The most disappointing part was finding out that we paid $30 a night more than we would have paid staying in a nicer hotel on upper State Street.

Not bad for a Motel 6

The best part of this motel is the proximity to the beach. You can be on the sand 2 minutes after walking out of your door. The zoo is just a few minutes walk as well. However, there is not much else within easy walking distance. You'd really have to like walking to be OK with the distance to the Wharf and State St. (20-30 mins). We walked down there once, but ended up driving after that. We prefer to be in a quieter location, so this was fine with us. As far as the motel itself, it is actually pretty decent. The rooms are a bit cramped, but nicely updated. There was an air conditioner and a flat screen, so I was happy. The towels were small and there was no shampoo, but I can live with that. It seemed that everyone there had multiple dogs with them, but it never caused us any problems. Overall, this is a really good value for Santa Barbara, but it's still a Motel 6.
