Santa Barbara luxury hotel keeps guests happy with amazing amenities
The Hotel Mar Monte stands just across the street from beautiful East Beach in Santa Barbara. The AAA 3 diamond hotel has 173 comfortable guestrooms encased in a lovely Spanish Colonial building. Guests take in views of the Pacific Ocean while swimming in the heated outdoor pool. Rooms included modern conveniences like microwaves, refrigerators, high-speed Internet access and 37-inch HDTV with HBO and on-demand movies. The Hotel Mar Monte is within walking distance to the Santa Barbara Zoo and a short drive to many Santa Barbara attractions.

Our experience was very ...
Our experience was very poor. Our first room, there appeared to be a sewer backup so we requested a different room. The second room also had a horrid smell - rather musty. So they moved us to a separate building to a third room - which did not smell. The amenities were nothing to rave about. It was not worth the premium one must pay. The HBO appeared to have been pirated from anther cable service ? due to the sync of visual and sound being off.

Ooooh, THE UGLY!!!
We were misinformed and mislead about the ocean view room that we had requested. The details on the reservation indicated " Ocean view" , but when we got there we were informed that there was no such room available for that night. The manager simply said that she could cancel the reservation without any penalty. I would have taken that offer if I hadn't been driving for 2 hours and was earlier than 11:00 pm . SUCH DISAPPOIINTMENT for a well planned trip !!!!!!!

I booked this based upon the fact that it was listed as a 4 star hotel. This was barely worth a 1 star and clearly not a 4 star. My 1st room was small and just above where a wedding party was being set up. They moved me to a slightly larger room, still in the same "party" building with a wonderful view of the Motel 6 across the street. The dining facility was a joke as well. Dirty glasses, slow service and no ambiance what so ever. Top all this off with the fact that the pool/hot tub and several options of beach view rooms were all closed for renovations. Run away from this place as fast as you can.

So dissapointing!!
We checked into a dirty room. It had not been done. When it was cleaned, I found a long hair in the tub. That kind of grossed me out thinking of the rest of the room's cleanliness feature. Security woke up the floor in the middle of the night. Staff came right into room in the a.m. to show customer a room, no knock, used card key. Asked if we enjoyed the breakfast package as we checked out. I was never told I had a breakfast package.. Paid over $400. for one night. I expected better. I wanted to say all this at checkout, but other customers were there and I didn't want to complain , but I will write to hotel.

Disappointment
Very noisy air conditioner blowied on head all night. Second night avoided turning on AC but motor and pump noises from bathroom persisted all night. Guess that noisy AC cvered up the noisy pipes. Paid a lot less in Marriotts and Westins and had no issues there.

Ocean View
The location of the Hotel Mar Monte could not be better--the Pacific Ocean on one side and views of the mountains on the other side. The room was comfortable but noise from people upstairs was annoying, as well as street noise below. We needed to leave early to participate in the Santa Barbara Half Marathon so we ordered breakfast for 6:30 a.m. We finally canceled room service at 7:00 as we had to leave.

The Good and Bad
Stayed at this hotel in January 2009 with a friend for cycling in the Santa Barbara and Santa Inez area. It was dated at that time but reasonably priced considering the access to the beach and bicycle trails. It still requires lot's of upgrading to function as a Hyatt property. Apparently it was pruchased by Hyatt earlier in 2010. Our room during this trip in November 2010 was was extremely noisy and had mechanical equipment eternal to the unit which would cycle on and off every 45 minutes or so. additionally, the hotel now charges $10 per day for on-site parking! That's the bad! The good is beach access, it's across the street from the East Beach Bath House (and the beach) which has a very reasonable breakfast menu.

Over-rated
Over priced. The sheets were really stiff. The room service was disgusting. The room is really really small. Way smaller than a normal hotel room. For being a hyatt hotel & the price we paid, there was nothing elevated about this hotel. It's old, smells, and make lots of creaking sounds. The bistro lounge smelled like a moldy mop and the counter was sticky. Would not recommend
