Fabulous Deal
We loved this hotel! We had a beautiful view of the ocean and a gorgeous courtyard that was right outside our window! The rooms were adorable with lots of color, a flat screen tv and a luxurious bed! It was great that we were able to walk to all of the shops and restaurants! And the hotel staff was amazing! If we had any issues the staff was there to fix it in minutes! Loved Santa Barbara and love Hotel Oceana!

Hotel Oceana Stay
I loved that this hotel was RIGHT across from the beach. I was able to do a morning jog along the ocean as well as the pier. And the continental breakfast wasn't that bad. It consisted of pastries, cereals, oatmeal, and yogurt. Unfortunately, you had to pay $5 extra for an omelette. The rooms here are VERY small. And I wish the shower had a shelf of some sort to put down my toiletries onto. I had to reach down to the floor of the shower over and over again to get something. One bad thing was parking. After hanging around State street late, I drove back to the hotel around 1am and couldn't find ANY parking spots. Being that I paid $10 for parking, I was quite upset so I called the front desk. They told me there was a handicap parking spot available on their hotel property and that it would be totally okay to park there. They insured me that I wouldn't get a ticket since it's private property. I didn't get a ticket or anything, but definitely felt uneasy parking in a handicap parking spot.

Good location, close to the beach and State street (main street in Santa Barbara). Diners close by. Notice that you need to pay extra if you want to park your car there. And check out time is alraedy 11 a.m.

Good, bad, and really ugly
Hotel Oceana is located across from the harbor, beach, and pier, and within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. That's the best thing that can be said about the place. The room I occupied in this cheaply updated old hotel, charming as it no doubt once was, had no chair or desk (a real negative for someone on business). The room was next to the utility closet, the door to which seemed to be opening and closing all day long, with a succession of towel carts rolling by at regular intervals. The showerhead dripped night and day. The tile shower was moldy; one of the hinges on the shower door was encrusted with mold. The ancient wall heater sounded like an F-16 taking flight. I had the misfortune to be in Santa Barbara during Southern California's severe storms, and a heater was necessary. I spent much more time in the room than I would have if the weather had been better, and so the room's problems probably were more annoying than might otherwise be the case. However, the grounds were lovely even in the torrential rains. The continental breakfast was excellent--lots of variety (abundant toast, fruit, muffins, hot and cold cereal, coffee, juice, milk, etc.) and ample seating. I gave it one star only because Hotel Oceana needs something far more than "something special." It needs cleanliness and some consideration of the purpose of a visit.

Great location, great hotel
Couldn't have asked for a better trip to Santa Barbara. This hotel is within walking distance to the beach, pier, wineries and State Street. We didn't have to drive the whole weekend. The hotel was clean, the staff were helpful and the pool/hot tub was great.

quirky, appealing hotel
We've stayed at the Oceana several times and it's always pleasant. I can't say that I like the newly renovated rooms -- hardwood floors are not cosy, and the decor is pretty mismashed -- but we stay at the Oceana for the great location (accross from the Marina and a short walk to the Pier and Merry go Round) and the very friendly staff. The rooms are quirky -- sometimes the lights don't work, the water is not hot from the sink, ect -- but the pool is always great, breakfast is lovely (again, super friendly staff) and the hotel has a kind of old world charm.

Nice location
Since it was my birthday I wanted to treat myself to a get away and picked Hotel Oceana because of its location which is right next to the beach. This is the first hotel I have stayed in with hardwood floors which is a nice touch. They gave me an upgrade which was nice but the only thing was it didn't have a tub just a shower. So I asked for a room with a tub and they were nice enough to accommodate me. The one thing that was annoying was the fact that since all of the rooms have hardwood floors, if you are staying on the first floor you can hear everything happening above you: walking, talking, dropping of things, and flushing of toilet. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars. Other than that it really is a nicely decorated cute hotel with well manicured grounds that is close to the beach, downtown and eateries. If you drive there it's ten dollars for parking and they do have free wifi in the rooms.
