Camping for the camping-impaired
El Calitan village is comprised of about 100 quaint standalone cabins, each with it's own firepit and varying degrees of privacy. The cabins are actually prefab mobile units, but you wouldn't know that on first inspection. We went during off-season, which I suspect is the beat time because we had such a sense of privacy. That is, until a group of USC kids showed up late and began playing techno music in the next cabin. There is a strict no noise policy, so a short call to the front desk took care of that. For about $50, we had a BBQ kit delivered to our door, which included 2 delicious uncooked marinated salmon steaks, raw mixed vegetable ready to sautee, a salad, enough smores ingredients for 2, firewood, and a firestarter. It had been a while since I had made a cite, so it took a few tries, but once we got going it was a really fun and fantastically delicious experience. I actually ended up paying significantly less than [...] quoted. Not sure why but I'm not complaining! I highly recommend this place to those who want to pretend to rough it for a night or two!
