Won't go back!
I chose this hotel because it was reasonably priced and was located near the concert venue I was in town to visit. Wish I had listened to the other negative reviews posted- while the room was averagely decent, the entire staff was rude, unprofessional, and at times outright agressive. Upon arriving at 3pm (two hours after their posted check-in time of 1pm), I was told by the desk clerk that I was "early" and that my room wouldn't be available for another hour. When I politely expressed concern about this (I'd already paid for the room- if your policy says I have access to the room at 1pm, then I'd like access to my room!), I was repeatedly told that there was nothing that could be done. No apologies, no show of concern , nothing- just a suggestion to sit in my car in the parking lot for an hour while I waited. After I asked to speak to the desk clerk's supervisor, I was told that there was no one available to talk to me. Once I expressed my dissastisfaction in their customer service, the clerk then threatened to cancel my reservation. I hate having to be "that guy", but I eventually obtained the name and number of the district manager for the hotel, and of course as soon as they contacted the hotel I was staying at there "conveniently" was a room available. Overall, not too bad of a hotel if you don't mind rudeness with your customer service, I suppose. But personally I think I'll stay elsewhere next time I'm in town, and I'll make sure to tell all my friends the same thing.

Not Good
The only good thing about this motel is that it's only 10 miles north of the Golden Gate and is a lot cheaper than staying in San Francisco.

You get what you paid for
The ups: cheap price, close to freeway, close to my office, $1.25 coke bottle at vending machine. The downs: pretty old carpet, not very clean, need to open windows all day to keep the room fresh enough to sleep, need a desk for my laptop, need a power socket adaptor for the microwave to work, (i never made use of it because of that), Others: Comcast cable, free wifi, breakfast, swimming pool.

Good place to stay
This hotel was central to the public transportation system which made it a perfect stay for us. Not too many eating places within walking distance. Area seemed safe. Pretty isolated from other businesses, so safer to stay inside at night. Accommodations were adequate. We were able to get to many San Francisco attractions via the bus system without much difficulty. Saved us some money on rental car. Perfect stay for a couple but not perhaps for women staying alone. I felt safe because I was with my boyfriend.

Great for the price
Nothing particularly special about this place. It didn't seem to be in the best area of San Rafael, but we got a decent, clean room and a good breakfast for much lower price than the rest of the area.

Pretty Reasonable
It is not in the center of the city, but close enough. Access to Freeway is good. Room was big, clean, wifi was working all the time with okay speed.

Bare Bones, Barely Adequate
We chose this hotel for its convenient location & super low price, even though we read some horrible reviews. I braced myself for the worst & accepted the room after inspecting for bugs & cleanliness. Our room got too cold & the heater only blasted. So, we'd constantly wake up to turn the heater on and off. Not a great sleep. It was quiet and clean enough! The windows did not lock. The neighborhood was marginal. We took our valuables with us just in case. There's a coffee roaster across the street & a bakery around the corner.Since I knew from other reviews that the staff (family owned) was less than cordial, I started trying to develop a friendly relationship with them by calling ahead by phone. [...] will warm up to you but she is used to saying "we cannot do this". I would only stay here again if $$$ were an issue. Pay the extra money for a better hotel. It's worth it and there are better ones close enough.

Long walk from hotel
SOL FOOD is fantastic! There are MANY great resturants of all sorts in town, which is close. San Rafael is a nice place, but visit Fairfax for a unique experience of the NOCAL hills and community. Get a good massage!
