If you're planning on staying in San Mateo for a short period of time then this is a good hotel. Pros: Average internet speed, nice selection of cable programs, okay ac/heater. Cons: Not many restaurants around the area unless you really really love asian food, atrocious water pressure (you're better off with the sprinklers outside), no bathtub, very high toilet seat (I'm 5'10'' and it was very uncomfortable), no ventilator in the bathroom (it fogged up alot), hard wood floors (very cold) It was this or Stone Villa across the street. I chose this because it had better reviews than Stone Villa. Our main goal was to go to SF. You can take the bus all the way to Millbrae and take the BART from there. Overall, it was an okay hotel if you're staying for a few days.

If you're going to SF and don't want to drive, take Millbrae ($2) then BART to Embarcadero ($8.8 roundtrip)

Robot Fighting Event
Third time we have stayed at this Howard Johnson and it has always been good . Even though it is near a major and busy road it is very quite . Beds are very nice . I have recommened this to other people attending the robotic events .

Heidi's Pies had good food for breakfast and dinner . If you show your Howard Johnson's room key they give a discount . Open 24 hours .

Needs fixing up
Sink was loose on wall, drainpipe at attachment to sink had been caulked back on. Tiny room but it was one of the handicap access rooms. Coffe was provided but no coffee maker. Stayed on Monday but canceled plans to return on the weekend. Found MUCH nicer place for $20 more per night.

It is a good place
We visited this hotel while we visited our relative. It is a good location and value. But room has very bad smoke smell and they tried tocover it by blow very strong and bad smell air fresher.

Convenient good value
Hotel provided free parking and clean room. Convenient to airport and not far from San Fran. Nice continental breakfast provided. Only complaint was non-fitted sheets on bed that kept sliding.

San Francisco Trip
I thought the room was good. The bed was comfortable. We liked having a refrigerator and microwave in the room, We had plenty of towels and the soiled towels were always replaced. The room floors could have been cleanier, On the last night we stayed there, the housekeeping person forgot to put a top sheet on our bed. My husband used to live in San Mateo and the hotel selection made it easy for dining, shopping and siteseeing.
