California dreaming at this stunning and historic San Jose resort
Lined with palm trees, this picturesque 20-acre estate was once a privately owned property, and it's easy to see the meticulous care that went into the Mediterranean Revival-style architecture back in 1905. The Dolce Hayes Mansion was carefully renovated and converted into a hotel in the 1990s and now holds 214 lavish guest rooms and 33,000 square feet of meeting space. There is also a plethora of resort facilities, including a swimming pool, spa, fitness center and two high-end restaurants.
Highlights:
- Free high-speed wireless Internet throughout the property
- Two fine-dining New American restaurants, Orlo's and Silver Creek Dining Room
- Stunning property listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Rooms:
Guest rooms, traditionally decorated to complement Dolce Hayes Mansion's Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, are outfitted with either one king or two queen beds. Multi-line phones and free Internet make working remotely easy, while cushy bathrobes, slippers, board games and movies make relaxation a certainty. Coffee-makers, refrigerators and luxury bedding are standard amenities.
Features:
Being Spa provides an array of pampering treatments, and hotel guests get complimentary use of the spa's sauna and steam room. A heated outdoor pool, fitness center and adjacent park with tennis, basketball and volleyball offer an assortment of ways to stay active. Afterward, guests can ease sore muscles in the indoor or outdoor Jacuzzi or relax over dinner at Orlo's, a fine-dining New American restaurant. Silver Creek Dining Room has healthier options for breakfast and lunch. A complimentary shuttle goes to businesses within five miles, as well as to and from the San Jose airport.

Fabulous Alternative Stay in San Jose
Forget those standard hotels...try staying in an old mansion. Actually, most rooms are located in a large building behind the actual mansion but this "mansion complex" is beautiful with gorgeous, tropical landscaped grounds, pool, jacuzzi, spa, bar, restaurant. The mansion is a lovely place to hang out at night. You can pick up this room at a great price on travel websites. It's about 6 miles from downtown San Jose - but there's not much in downtown that makes it worth staying there.

Overrated
It's somewhat impressive from the outside, but inside it was not very clean -- both in our bathroom and in the hallways, elevators, etc. Also, almost everywhere there was the smell of leftover food from various meetings that had happened hours (or a day or two?) before. It felt like we were staying in a banquet hall ... well after the banquet. It certainly did not feel like a 4-star hotel! We would not go back again.

pamper yourself
Best hotel I have ever stayed in. Not your typical chain hotel. You feel like you are staying in a mansion. Stayed at start and end of a road trip. Quiet, elegant rooms. Both rooms were different but just as nice. Old mansion but luxurious carpets, bedding, curtains, cabinets. Has coffee, fridge, robes, pool, spa. $15 dollar weekday breakfast buffet worth every penny! Omelets made to order in front of you by a chef, buffet of every type breakfast food you'd want. If you want to feel pampered, stay here. We saw quests with their children and staff appeared very accommodating to them.

Hotel stay
The hotel was a sight to behold a true tribute to its history. The grounds are so well kept and the staff very polite. Room was small and old but then again its a historical landmark thus it is right for its time. I would gladly stay there again in the future

Pleasant After a Rocky Start
Our initial impressions weren't great. Our GPS system led us astray, which they say is pretty common, and we wound up in a residential area. Then they tried to put us in an accessible room, not necessarily bad but in this case it meant a bathroom that was essentially a big shower with a toilet in it. Not the room class we had reserved. After some brief debate we got the right room and from then on everything was much, much smoother. The grounds are interesting and the history of the place gives it any number of special touches. There are some nice spaces for lounging outdoors and the breakfast buffet was a bargain with quite a few tasty options. We had one more encounter with indifferent staff but otherwise enjoyed the stay and would return.
