Affordable downtown San Jose hotel offers easy access to everything

Located in the heart of downtown San Jose, the Arena Hotel offers walkable access to the HP Pavilion, downtown offices and the San Jose Caltrain station. Guests appreciate the variety of nearby dining and transportation options whether they are there for a San Jose Sharks game or a business trip. Complimentary breakfast (daily) and evening appetizers (Monday-Thursday) help guests fuel up for a long day of work or night of recreation, and Jacuzzi tubs in each room ease sore muscles afterward.

Highlights:
  • Free wireless Internet access in rooms and common areas
  • Complimentary continental breakfast and evening appetizer hour
  • Walking distance to HP Pavilion, downtown San Jose and Caltrain
Rooms:

The recently renovated rooms have traditional decor, including dark-wood furnishings and printed bedspreads in dark, muted colors. Guestrooms and suites are highlighted by amenities such as 27-inch color TVs, voicemail-enabled telephones, microwaves, refrigerators, coffeemakers and even kitchenettes in some rooms. Two-person Jacuzzi bathtubs and free wireless Internet access are nice bonuses.

Features:

Corporate travelers appreciate the on-site business center, which is open daily and includes a computer workstation with Internet access and a printer. (A fax machine and photocopier are available at the front desk.) Guests who don't like checking bags can take advantage of the same-day dry-cleaning service and an on-site laundry room (fees apply). Perhaps most appreciated, though, is the complimentary breakfast available weekdays and weekends. In the evenings, light eaters can make a meal of the snacks provided in the lobby.

Great location but....

Hotel is perfect for any event at HP but the bed and pillows in their rooms are 30+ years old. Not a fan.

a little gem

while this place appears to be very common, it's really quite convenient and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the room was simple, but nice. The stay included a free full breakfast which was a pleasant suprise. It's a a short drive from downtown and in a cute little areas with it's own history and a sushi place, good coffee shop, and some art studios within walking distance.

Take a cab downtown or public transportaton. It's also a nice little walk if you're heading out, but I recommend a cab for coming back.

location good for Arena

The hotel itself was average and the staff was very friendly. The downside is that, upon walking to the hotel from the parking lot, there were people sitting outside at the picnic tables with a case of beer and not using the best language. The air conditioner was extremely loud and to hear the tv, you would have made it uncomfortable for the other guests, so we just turned it off. The upstairs guests were running and jumping till after 2am.

Surprising find in San Jose!

The Arena Hotel was comfortable, clean, friendly, convenient and affordable! I would definitely stay here again! It is convenient to the airport and businesses nearby. It was clean and affordable and provided a very nice breakfast. We arrived at the airport tired and ready for our hotel room and was surprised to find how nice this was! We traveled to San Francisco while we were staying here and it was about an hours drive. We went to the Farmers Market on Friday morning. It couldn't have been better. I would recommend this to everyone!

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

The cozy outdoor market takes place each Friday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. along a charming block of San Pedro Street between Santa Clara and St. John streets.

Good Value

Good Value for the area. My stay was quiet and I thought the staff all did their jobs well. The rooms are a bit dated but acceptable. I feel like the carpet in the hallways needs to be replaced. It would make the hotel seem much nicer. Also, my room could have smelled a little more fresh.

Convenient

The staff was really friendly when it came to checking in. Our room was clean, the jacuzzi tub was nice, and the location was really convenient. We had no issues with noise or the cleanliness of the room. The only thing that was annoying was that they didn't allow you to take food from the breakfast buffet back to your room. Other than that I was completely satisfied especially for the price. I would definitely stay there again!

Pavilion Proximity

This hotel is within walking distance of the HP Pavilion. It has off street parking for guests. Free breakfast is awesome! Rooms are clean and not huge but big enough for two not to get in each other's way! Staff is very friendly. Have stayed here before and will stay again if the occasion arises.
