Modest class just two miles from San Francisco International Airport
The exterior of Millbrae's Travelodge San Francisco Airport North is modest, but it's what inside that counts. Ok for REALLY REALLY cheap (and desperate) travelers
My family decided to go to San Francisco over the weekend to escape the crazy life in LA. We decided to shop for a cheap "hotel" because we'll be gone for the most part of the stay anyways. We arrived past 7 (101 freeway in SF is as bad as 405 during the rush hours - WORD!) and it was raining so hard. Fortunately the staff was friendly enough to greet us with a warm smile. But the room was at best subpar to the universe of hotels in the west coast. We asked for a non-smoking room and yet we can still smell cigarette smoke. We even had to let the door open (amid the freezing temp) just to let the odor away. But yeah if you're cheapskate (like me) or have nothing else to go to for the night, then this place will do. Just don't expect the icing on the cake.

So close to the airport you can smell the jet fumes. A 24-hour IHOP and Valero are literally inches away

Unfortunate timing
Although I think the staff did the best that they could under the circumstances, I was still unimpressed w/the customer service. Their key machine was broken, so they had to send a staff member to unlock doors for guests individually, in a pouring, windy rainstorm when many people were checking in for the football game. However, there were no general announcements from the staff (people in line were giving each other information as to what was going on), nothing was provided in terms of keeping guests comfortable or fed or given soft drinks while waiting or anything, which might have helped people from being cranky. The staff just seemed completely unorganized and unprepared, could have been much more professional about the whole situation.

Arrived very late due to being delayed, hotel shuttle came and picked us up no problems. Check in staff were very nice and helpful. Room was basic but clean, good shower and comfy beds. No road noise at all. Breakfast on the other hand was not good, the room was tiny and packed - not enough seats. old fruit and no coffee left. We did not stay but rather picked up some on our journey. On the whole, this was a good stop off when we arrived at the airport before picking up our hire car the next day.

Well, it was inexpensive...
...and within spitting distance of SFO. And had an IHOP next door. And free in-room Wi-Fi. But the shower area looked like it was going to shatter at any moment. The bed was comfortable, but the comforter had a noticeable rip in it. And the TV channel pickings were pretty slim. Then again, I just needed a bed and Wi-Fi for two nights. So if you're on a budget and not picky, it'll do.

Entertainment tip:
Short drive from hotel
The Great Dickens Fair (runs for four weeks from Thanksgiving on), which turns the Cow Palace into 19th Century London. It's an immersive experience, with costumed characters interacting with you, period food and drink, and entertainment for all ages (although some, such as Mad Sal's Dockside Cafe, veer towards the PG-13 end of the spectrum...). It's a real blast.

A good place to rest your head
This hotel is a nice place to stay. My husband and I just needed a room to sleep and shower while taking part in an event in the Cow Palace, and this hotel fit the bill. It is an older hotel and some of the rooms look a little worse for wear, but the beds were comfortable and we got a good nights sleep.
