Legendary Union Square hotel combines comfort, class
The Westin St. Francis is the only hotel that actually sits on Union Square. The main building dates back to 1904, and many public areas boast the ornate columns, intricate woodwork and other design elements from this era. Perhaps the property's most famous feature is its Magenta Grandfather Clock, a popular place for people to meet. Today the property comprises two separate buildings: the historic main building and a newer tower. Three on-site restaurants offer a host of dining options.

SF Vacation Trip
SF Extended Weekend Getaway
This hotel is very centrally located and all available means of transportation are at your doorstep. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Booked this trip as a combination through third party and classic room in older building is very small, but well appointed and kept. Has a very historical feel to the room. Next stay would definitely be in the tower with requested view room. All in all this stay was enjoyable. Plenty of shopping and activies surround. The park located adjacent to the property had old silent films one evening.

Very Nice!
The weather was perfect so we were glad to be able to have a window open. We had a great view of Union Square, and the bed was very comfortable. The room wasn't huge but had a high ceiling and felt very spacious. The decor in the lobby, bar, and restaurant had contemporary touches that didn't detract from the old school classiness.

Been to the Best
A Long-time Favorite
I have stayed at this hotel before and it consistently offers an exquisite level of quality and service. Staff are courteous and responsive and follow through promptly on every request. This is one hotel that I would not hesitate to recommend. If you want the whole package - beautiful architecture, well-appointed rooms, and an unfailing commitment to service - this is the place to stay. I particularly love the "workout rooms" which offer a stationary bike, weights, core ball, yoga mat, and DVD player as well as a Yoga/Pilates DVD, a yoga handbook, and other healthy living resources. It was great to continue my workout routine without having to leave my room yet still have access if desired to the first-class fitness facilities on premises. My only negative feedback is: - the hallways on our floor were quite chilly. IF the hotel is doing this as part of a "green" campaign, that's OK as long as they disclose it up front and suggest that guests be prepared for a brisk walk from elevator to room;

Don't miss breakfast at Sear's Fine Food - another legend in San Francisco, one block away from the hotel. Arrive before 8 am to avoid the inevitable lines that form in front of the restaurant. Also try Kuleto's Italian Restaurant - their bread basket and olive oil are stand outs, the chef is very adept and the menu items we sampled were delicious. We were so delighted with our first lunch there that we made it a point to return the night before our departure! Don't forget to make reservations - they fill up quickly!

WE STAYED IN THE ORIGINAL PART OF THE HOTEL.THE ROOM WAS VERY SMALL,BUT THE HOTEL IS WONDERFUL.IF YOU'RE GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO TO SHOP THEN YOU CANT BEAT THIS LOCATION.THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY AND EXTREMELY HELPFUL.

Location, location, location
We had a great experience. The staff was extremely pleasant, courteous, and helpful. We did a lot of sightseeing. You couldn't ask for a better location that was close to everything. This ranks high on my list of trips.

Awesome location

excellent hotel.
THE ROOMS WERE VERY CLEAN AND ATTRACTIVE, AND THE UNION SQUARE LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT FOR SHOPPING AND ACCESSING THE FANTASTIC PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS. OVERALL A GREAT PLACE AND A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL. A RECURRING ARTIST'S MARKET AND LIVE MUSIC IN UNION SQUARE WERE BONUSES. THE MAIN IMPROVEMENTS WOULD BE BETTER SOUNDPROOFING OF ROOMS(WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE) AND REDUCING THE COST OF THE IN ROOM REFRIGERATOR ITEMS, WHICH WOULD ENCOURAGE THEIR PURCHASE.

Relaxing
It was a mini vacation to get away from reality. It was nice to be in the city. The hotel was in a great location, near everything and everywhere I needed to go. The hotel disappointed me in its cleanliness and size. The walls had noticeable stains. Our morning was interrupted by our neighbors' loud conversations. The bathroom needed more toiletry such as lotion. Overall I would stay here again.

Ask concierge about local dining. All recommendations were great. Except we were directed away from the ocean beach to the west but found it beautiful at sunset. Cliff House is pretty good but a long way across town.
