We've stayed in a variety of hotels in SF. This was the first time staying at the Westin. The room was clean and nicely ... appointed, the location excellent, and the bed very comfortable. However, a key light bulb was burned out in the bathroom, the shower curtain smelled funk, and the room was without a Gideon Bible or a telephone book. We would stay there again, but would first check out the room before unpacking. The rate was very good for SF, but expect to pay over $50 per day for parking.

I ate out many times at great places, met some friends and ate Indian cuisine one evening nearby. The Westin, formerly the ... Argent, has a great outside dining area in the late summer and fall. The wait staff was superb and the bartender knows his/her drinks.

Hotel was fine for the most part. Disappointed that there was no pool. Also disappointed in the fact that the hotel only ... offers room service for breafast and dinner only/ not lunch. The most aggravating part was learning my starwood points would only be applied from incidentals and not from staying there because I booked through orbitz. I think that's unfair. They're still getting paid and I'm staying at their hotel. Didn't understand that

Service was excellent, hotel was beautiful. The location was great. We walked to union square (great shopping) and walked to ... china town from our hotel. Warf is about 1 1/2 miles away. I would have walked but with 2 small kids.

So, the cost to valet is 15 dollars a night plus 40 dollar fee and we had a large vehicle (SUV) so that increased the cost to 15 dollars...a night! 70 dollars a night...yikes. Thankfully, the valet suggested that we park the car ourselves in a city structure (very close) for 25 a day. Much better deal!

If we have the opportunity to return to San Francisco, we would stay at the same hotel. Everyone was very helpful with ... questinos we had, especially given this was our first visit to SF and the accomodations were top notch. The hotel is centralized to many of the local attractions. Additionaly, there was close access to the various modes of transportation and we used most of them (especailly the cable car system and buses)to get around; but we also did some walking. We had a blast; it would be hard not to in this city.

I stayed at this hotel during SF Pride. The location is great. It is centrally located for Pride events, but far enough to ... get away from the crazy if you want to. The rooms are nice and clean. And the view was great for a room that was not an uber fancy room.

Great hotel for the price
Brenzoomer Jun 24, 2009
I stayed at the Westin while attending a conference just across the street at the Mariott. I chose the Westin because the ... price was $144 a night, which was $100 less per night than the Mariott! I got a great deal through Orbitz. I, however, would prefer not pay that much if I were paying for it out of my own pocket. I stayed at the Westin for business because it was right next the conference hotel and the price wasn't too bad for the 4 days I stayed there. The Westin had excelllent service. The staff were very professional and attentive. The rooms were clean and the beds were great. I was bumped up to a double queen room, so there was ample space. The large flat screen T.V. was nice to have. There was a small workout room with some basic equipment on the 4th floor that I used daily. The only thing I was not happy about was the $15/ day expense for internet service. That's a steep price ... and the speed was really slow! A hotel like the Westin should have complimentary internet for their guests. The room service menu was pricey, and the restaurant and lounge downstairs was just as pricey. All in all, though, I had a pleasant and comfortable stay. After the conference was over though, I chose to stay at the Serrano Hotel for the extra week I stayed in San Francisco because it was around $110 a night and had complimentary internet and a free wine tasting each night at 5:00.

The hotel was right by the Fashion Mall which had an excellent food court in the basement. You got a lot of tasty restaurant-style food on real plates for about $10.

Great Location & Price!!
Momma Maz Jun 2, 2009
The location of the hotel was great. We couldn't decide whether to stay near the Wharf or in the City. So happy we chose the ... city! A must is to experience & take cable car to Wharf, then go to Buena Vista for the best Irish Coffee! In the city we went shopping, shopping, shopping! Our friends recommended the Daily Grill. We went there 3x's. Happy Hour dailly from 3pm - 6pm. Great drinks & appetizers. Dinner's are delicious! Bartender the best! Ate the best breakfast next door at an Irish Pub. The hostess at the restaurant located in hotel was very rude. We refused to eat there but we didn't let that spoil our trip.

The great and the unhelpful
Marjorie May 31, 2009
While in SanFrancisco, we basically did all of the tourist things. If you are flying in and not renting a car, take a taxi to ... the hotel. It ends up being the same price as a shuttle and it's quicker. You MUST purchase a 3-day transportation pass for $18 pp. This allows you to take the trolleys and bus transportation around the area; well worth the money. The 2-day double decker bus pass was okay, not as exciting as NYC, but it takes you to lots of great locations. If going to Alcatrax, I highly suggest purchasing tickets well in advance before you leave. The hotel is located right up the street from the main trolley stop and Union Square shopping. We ended up arriving really early before check-in, the front desk quickly cleaned a room and allowed us to check-in early. We had a unique corner room with a great view. The service in the hotel restaurant was amazing; but the continental breakfast was lacking. For the price you pay the buffet was limited (no omelet bar) and the quality very poor (hard french toast, overcooked bacon). We did not eat lunch or dinner there, but I guess the restaurant is supposed to be rated pretty high. The main complaint we had was the concierge service. Anytime we needed help we would have to wait long periods of time. When calling from the room, they never answered their phone. When I left a message to have them call back, they did not do so until 5 hours later. Overall we had a great experience, except for being cold...a front came in. I never thought I would have to buy winter clothes in CA coming from CO.
