The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco epitomizes the true meaning of luxury. This award-winning hotel is in a magnificent 1909 building complete with classical portico and columns, and recently completed a comprehensive $12.5 million USD refurbishment. Parallel 37 serves Californian and international cuisines while the Lobby Lounge makes a mean Bloody Mary to go with its oysters. Burn off some calories in the spectacular fitness center or enjoy a massage in the spa (fees apply).

Dining

Diners at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco can enjoy Californian and international cuisines at the in-house Parallel 37. The restaurant is proud to welcome Chef Michael Rotondo from Chicago, where he most recently served as Executive Chef for Charlie Trotter’s. Parallel 37 seeks inspiration from our geographic latitude and food & wine that celebrate many cultural influences in the San Francisco Bay Area. Patrons can also choose from a selection of cocktails and spirits at The Lounge on site.

Rooms

As you would expect from a hotel of this caliber, the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco guest rooms are of an exceptionally high standard. All 336 accommodations were upgraded during the multimillion dollar renovations, and the quality shines through, with featherbeds adorned by 400-thread-count Frette linens and down comforters, in a setting of refined elegance and furniture includes desks, chairs and ottomans. Sophisticated color schemes draw on an opulent palette of pale gold, cream and beige, echoing the classical French style, which informs the entire interior of the Ritz-Carlton, with its fine objets d'art that include marble Louis XVI urns and Waterford candelabras of museum quality. Rooms contain modern conveniences such as DVD and CD players, 32-inch high-definition LCD flat-panel televisions and wireless Internet access (fees may apply). Guests also enjoy the indulgent marble bathrooms with designer rain effect showerheads, luxuriant bathrobes, and complimentary Bulgari toiletries. These high standards are present throughout the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco, which pampers guests further with complimentary shoeshine services, bottled water, morning beverage and a choice of fine drinking and dining options.

Nice price for this star hotel

It is lucky to have the discount price to stay at this luxury hotel. Everything is great except the poor ventilation in the room. The smelt is not so good.

Lovely Hotel

The SF Ritz is in a beautiful white building in a great location. Easy to get to Union Square, ride the cable car or get to restaurants. The service was excellent - attentive, thoughtful and classy. We upgraded to their Club level on the 8th floor and it was well worth it! The abundance of free food was great for my kids.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

The Slanted Door was a delicious Vietnamese restaurant in the Ferry Building at the water. Hip, casual and a lively place to stroll around before or after dinner

San Francisco Trip

We loved our hotel. We mainly were there to sight see. The club level with the food was awesome. Our room was very clean. I would have loved to have had a suite as I have two daughters and it was a little hard to share one king-sized bed. A suite would have been more comfortable. But that is a very, very small complaint. Overall, the stay was wonderful.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't let the cab drivers talk you into going places you don't want to go or try to tell you it is "too far to walk" there. Two taxi drivers on separate occasions took us to the "crooked" street when we had already seen it, one told us it was too far to walk through Chrissy's field and drove us straight to the bridge when we preferred to walk through Chrissy's field. You have to be very firm about what you want. Also the cable cars are great---just be sure to board on the side of the street that is heading where you are going. Wrong side of the street can get you further away from your destination---not closer.

Upscale and up the hill

We arrived late to the hotel and no one was waiting at the front desk at check-in - not like other RCs I have stayed in where people seem to be falling over themselves to help you out. It meets expectations that have come to be associated with the Ritz such as quiet, comfortable rooms with luxurious bedding, but the staff was not as exceptional as the other RCs where I have stayed. I would definitely go back though. The Ritz brand has set the standard for excellence in the hotel business and no one else really seems to be matching that right now.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

But any walks from the hotel are likely to be downhill with a serious incline to make it back.

Too many one way streets

Too many one way streets make it impossible to get there. Once there worth all the effort. Most friendly staff ever, great room service.

Great location

Stayed here for two nights in July. It was super convenient to the trolleys, shopping and the wharf. Going to other sites requires a car. Valet parking is really expensive (>$70 after tax). Room was very nice, really good size especially for SF.
