Lovely Hotel

The SF Ritz is in a beautiful white building in a great location. Easy to get to Union Square, ride the cable car or get to restaurants. The service was excellent - attentive, thoughtful and classy. We upgraded to their Club level on the 8th floor and it was well worth it! The abundance of free food was great for my kids.

The Slanted Door was a delicious Vietnamese restaurant in the Ferry Building at the water. Hip, casual and a lively place to stroll around before or after dinner

Upscale and up the hill

We arrived late to the hotel and no one was waiting at the front desk at check-in - not like other RCs I have stayed in where people seem to be falling over themselves to help you out. It meets expectations that have come to be associated with the Ritz such as quiet, comfortable rooms with luxurious bedding, but the staff was not as exceptional as the other RCs where I have stayed. I would definitely go back though. The Ritz brand has set the standard for excellence in the hotel business and no one else really seems to be matching that right now.

But any walks from the hotel are likely to be downhill with a serious incline to make it back.

Used to be much better

Few days in San Francisco after a cruise. The hotel room was reasonably priced, but the facilities are outdated and the charge for the services out of proportion. They charged $ 75 per day to park my rental car, and $ 100 for a mediocre brekfast for 3. Likely I will not consider this alternative in the future

Ritz review

Good: The hotel provided a car + driver for us when we could not get a taxi to a restaurant in the rain. Friendly staff. Bad: Breakfast food good in lovely room, but super expensive. Hot water had rust in it at first.

San Francisco Trip

We loved our hotel. We mainly were there to sight see. The club level with the food was awesome. Our room was very clean. I would have loved to have had a suite as I have two daughters and it was a little hard to share one king-sized bed. A suite would have been more comfortable. But that is a very, very small complaint. Overall, the stay was wonderful.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't let the cab drivers talk you into going places you don't want to go or try to tell you it is "too far to walk" there. Two taxi drivers on separate occasions took us to the "crooked" street when we had already seen it, one told us it was too far to walk through Chrissy's field and drove us straight to the bridge when we preferred to walk through Chrissy's field. You have to be very firm about what you want. Also the cable cars are great---just be sure to board on the side of the street that is heading where you are going. Wrong side of the street can get you further away from your destination---not closer.
