Solid value for the money

The Pickwick Hotel has a great location, just a block or so from Market Street in downtown San Francisco. The hotel is only a couple blocks from the Moscone Convention Center, and it is a short walk to Union Square, the cable car stop, the subway station (BART), etc., and Chinatown is only a 10-15 minute walk. The hotel is old, and the rooms reflect that age, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel did not offer amenities such as a pool because of its downtown location, but for a downtown San Francisco hotel the price was reasonable for what you received. If you are looking for a hot tub, pool, or extensive grounds, the Pickwick is not the place for you, but if you want a convenient location in downtown San Francisco for a reasonable price, consider it.

Great Location

The hotel was right by the Westfield Mall and close to Union Square and lots of shopping. The hotel was great for the money (especially on a Friday night) but did need a little upkeep. It was small but the windows opened up which was really nice. It was fuctional and inexpensive for a weekend stay in S.F.

Close to shopping

If you enjoy shoping as my wife does, than this location is ideal. The hotel is located within one to four blocks of many large department stores. Bloomingdale's and Nordstom's are located in a mall only a short block away. The mall also has many smaller stores and several restaurants. The cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf are only two blocks away. The room was small but the layout worked well. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and the small refrigerator kept our bottled water cold. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Parking your personal vehicle is expensive ($25-$30 a night).

It costs $5 for one-way ride on the cable car and $1 for the trolleys and buses. You can get a one day pass for $11.00 that you can use all day on the cable cars, trolleys, or buses.

Friendly staff, clean, and convenient

Stayed there for 10 days for WWDC. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and remembered me and always made the room very clean with nice finishing touches. The front desk staff was very helpful as well. They are not very responsive to email, but in person and phone are excellent. The fitness center is just what's pictured: just 2 treadmills, and elliptical, and a stair master. No weights which was disappointing. It was a good stay and I would stay here again.

Great location, nice place to sleep

The Pickwick Hotel is in a great location for those looking to explore the city as both the subway and bus/trolly system are only a block away, allowing for easy access to most places. Double bed rooms were a little tight, but fine if you aren't spending all day in the room. Staff were friendly and it was convenient to have the business center and small fitness room available.

Great location.

Conveniently located, with east access to public transportation. Friendly and helpful staff. Closet space and the bathrooms were very tight but manageable. Limited TV channels. Could do with getting upholstery changed on the chairs. They look very dirty.

Great location!

Overall, our stay at The Pickwick was good. Upon entering the staff was very friendly and helpful with answering any questions we had about the area. The room was small and cozy which was okay considering it was SF. For the most part the room was clean except we did find a strand of hair in the bathtub. That was a little disturbing. Also, our room faced a brick wall and a creepy alley way so we just kept the blinds shut. The walls are pretty thin so it can be noisy at times but it wasn't that bad. I'd say the best thing about this hotel is that it's at a great location! It's right next to the Westfield Mall and less than a block away from public transportation (bart, cablecar, bus). It's also in walking distance to most tourist locations in SF, such as Union Square, the Ferry Building, China Town, etc. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.

Overall great

Overall great. The robes and chocolate in the room were a nice touch. Staff was very helpful as well. The $32 dollar charge per day for parking is too stiff for overnight guests. This added over 30% to the cost of the room! Tub faucet was in poor shape, as was the water stream. Once you open the first window to the room and then open the second, you can see just how old the hotel is. I would come back though. Good Deal on the price!

super place

either Orbitz or hotel reservations reserved the room for a date in April, not Aug. The hotel clerk found the error and gave me a delux queen room. Very nice.(Both the room and the guy.)
