Gorgeous hotel room
The Pickwick Hotel is a very nice place to stay. The lobby is well decorated, and the rooms are beautiful. We weren't sure what to expect considering we made a very last minute reservation, but we were very pleased. The hotel was easy to find, near the financial district and tons of shopping. There was not much nightlife in that area, but the trolley and BART systems are nearby, so it is easy to get around San Francisco. A good choice, especially if you can get a decent deal on the room. I would definitely stay there again. We had no problems with anything, a rarity in a travel experience.

Great location
The Pickwick Hotel was very charming, clean and had a great location. It was 2 blocks from the Trolley, other transportation and a short walk to Union Square. The beds were very comfortable. We would stay there again.

Absolute peach of a hotel
I stayed here with my husband and adult daughter- the room was spacious for the three of us, an excellent value, quiet, nicely decorated, and in a great location. I have stayed at other downtown SF hotels but I think this is my favorite so far, and well worth a return visit. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. First time I've been South of Market. Far fewer street people than closer to Union Square, which was another treat.

I don't like sit down dining for every meal...I'd rather have a one great dinner (or lunch) per day at one of the fabulous restaurants in SF. Many of the local groceries have delicious meat pockets- piroshkis, that make a great and filling meal for about $2.00 each. You will be drawing upon SF's Russian heritage when you eat one!

Great Price for a Great Stay!
We arrived before our room was ready but they happily checked us in and stored our bags. Very friendly and helpful staff pointed out the highlights to see. Conveniently located within a short walk to public transportation, restaurants, museums, shopping. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to others and stay here again!

Best deal in town
Unexpected surprises: Very quiet: They have double paned windows over top of the old windows. Convenient: 2 blocks from the Moscone center and from the cable cars, Bart, Muni, etc. Updated: Marble bathroom, new paint, everything is in good repair. Extras: they have A/C and an in room refrigerator! They are not in the party part of town which starts 2 blocks away so there isn't night noise. Price: You can't beat the price. The extra taxes are not the hotels fault but California's doing.

This hotel is in a great location
This hotel is in a great location situated one block away from a shopping centre with a large fresh food market and food court on the bottom level at great prices. The hotel was a little old but well maintained with very helpful staff especially the bellboy. The hotel is one block from a fantastic shopping mall area and the trams which would take you to Fisherman's Wharf (great shopping area) and 2 blocks from the Alcetraz experience and a short taxi ride to the Golden Gate Bridge. There are a few homeless persons around the streets however they did not bother anyone and the area is very well Policed. We had a great time and would definately recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a decently priced hotel in a great location.

Great time alone in the city
Perfect location!! 3 minutes away from the Powell BART station and the 'F' streetcar route to Fisherman's Wharf. This was my first time in SF. I was travelling alone and always felt safe around this area. I was lucky to get a big bedroom with a view and a King bed! It was great. I loved it.

Time-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you want to ride the famous cable cars that depart from Powell Street, I would advise you to go there before 9am, if you want to skip the huge lines of people waiting to do the same throughout the day+night. Or, just pick up any other cable-car stop along the way (they will usually let you hop on, even if the cable car is quite full), and again, that will save you time waiting in line at the first or final stops.

Inexpensive stay in the city
This was really close to Union Square and lots of shopping! Not the fanciest of places, the rooms were small, but the beds were comfortable and the bed linens were fabulous! The decor was really cute in the rooms.
