Great time alone in the city

Perfect location!! 3 minutes away from the Powell BART station and the 'F' streetcar route to Fisherman's Wharf. This was my first time in SF. I was travelling alone and always felt safe around this area. I was lucky to get a big bedroom with a view and a King bed! It was great. I loved it.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you want to ride the famous cable cars that depart from Powell Street, I would advise you to go there before 9am, if you want to skip the huge lines of people waiting to do the same throughout the day+night. Or, just pick up any other cable-car stop along the way (they will usually let you hop on, even if the cable car is quite full), and again, that will save you time waiting in line at the first or final stops.

Great Location!

Loved this hotel. It is right next to Market St and all the downtown shopping. Also, only 1.3 mi away from AT&T Park (or only a $9 cab ride). It was updated and clean. Would absolutely stay at the Pickwick Hotel again!

Great location

The Pickwick was very conveniently located to Bart, shopping, etc. The room was charming and a good size and staff were pleasant. It's understandable that in a large city, there will be city noise. Unfortunately, because it was a weekend also and our room was above a Thai restaurant, there were very loud patrons both Friday and Saturday nights at 2am. However, I would still return there because it was a great value and so well located.

Great location..

The Pickwick was good value for the money.. the rooms were very clean/nice down comforters and down pillows, very nice quality shampoo/conditioner/body lotion. The location was fantastic, less than a block to a major mall, almost next door to Nordstroms, Bloomindales and Marshalls. Close to the BART station. Parking was expensive $30 per day, if I did it again, I would not rent a car but would take the airport shuttle directly to the hotel front door and have them pick me up for the return trip. The location is so close to the trolleys, buses and subway, and within walking distance if you want a nice walk.. we walked back from the Embarkadero on a Sunday afternoon and it was a nice distance. There's a very nice and reasonably priced coffee shop just up the street from the hotel, great breakfasts. The television channel selection was poor, no cable movie channels, only pay for view movies. The walls were thin, we could hear the couple next door very clearly, also, when in the bathroom you could hear people several rooms down if they were talking in the bathroom. Free wireless internet was a nice bonus. Overall, good.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Eat breakfast at the coffee shop to the right as you exit, it's about 200 feet from the hotel entrance.. Good value, breakfast in the range of $6 for bacon/eggs/fried potatoes and sourdough bread..

Absolute peach of a hotel

I stayed here with my husband and adult daughter- the room was spacious for the three of us, an excellent value, quiet, nicely decorated, and in a great location. I have stayed at other downtown SF hotels but I think this is my favorite so far, and well worth a return visit. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. First time I've been South of Market. Far fewer street people than closer to Union Square, which was another treat.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

I don't like sit down dining for every meal...I'd rather have a one great dinner (or lunch) per day at one of the fabulous restaurants in SF. Many of the local groceries have delicious meat pockets- piroshkis, that make a great and filling meal for about $2.00 each. You will be drawing upon SF's Russian heritage when you eat one!

Best deal in town

Unexpected surprises: Very quiet: They have double paned windows over top of the old windows. Convenient: 2 blocks from the Moscone center and from the cable cars, Bart, Muni, etc. Updated: Marble bathroom, new paint, everything is in good repair. Extras: they have A/C and an in room refrigerator! They are not in the party part of town which starts 2 blocks away so there isn't night noise. Price: You can't beat the price. The extra taxes are not the hotels fault but California's doing.
