Excellent Value

The Picky is a very clean and very comfortable hotel that has exceptional value for money. My girlfriend and I stayed four nights for a similar price to a hostel. This hotel is far superior to a hostel. The Pickwick is conveniently located near the BART (railway) so transportation to and from the airport is very easy. It is also very close to Union Square, Powell St Cable Cars and a variety of Downtown stores. The only negative about the hotel is it's location. Located on the edge of the Tenderloin there can be some undesirables outside the hotel. This isn't a major issue as we had no incidents but something to be careful of. I would highly recommend any 'value conscience' travelers to stay at the Pickwick.

Ideal location

The Pickwick Hotel is ideally located near a BART station and the cable car line. The turn-around for the cable car is only a block away. Chinatown, the Financial District, the Civic Center, shopping and many other key locations are in easy walking distance. While the room was somewhat small and is probably best suited to singles or couples, it was clean and comfortable. The stall were very friendly and helpful. Little Joe's is a restaurant/bar off the lobby and serves a very good breakfast buffet and nice Italian food for lunch and dinner. The variety of evening restaurants is somewhat limited, but there are still several choices. We will definitely return to the Pickwick on our next trip to San Francisco.

If you want to visit San Francisco without renting a car this is the place to go. The train, buses and cable cars stops are all within a block of the hotel.

Very close to Union Square

The Pickwick was very close to the hub of San Francisco shopping. A step out of the hotel lobby and just a few steps up and you are there!

Comfortable and affordable!

We stayed at the Pickwick because we were running the San Francisco marathon and needed a place near town far a good price. The room was small, but nice and the employees were all very friendly. The building is older, but they did a great job with what they have and I enjoyed my stay.

Good location, great price, comfy room

Very quaint, comfortable hotel. Room was clean and had great personality. Only a short walk to shopping near Union Square, as well as the Powell St. BART stop. We were given a corner unit, which meant we had windows on 2 sides. Great view of the old US Mint across the street. Two windows were great for getting fresh air and natural light, but at bedtime we realized that it also meant double the street noise. Not too loud - afterall, it's a bustling, exciting city - but noticeable. Appreciated the fact that the bathroom had a roomy bathtub with shower. I will definitely check this place out on my next trip to SF!

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Avoid the panhandlers and throngs of shopping tourists by taking a quick walk to the BART station. Berkeley, the Mission District, and other less-crowded destinations are only a quick (and cheap) ride away.

Gorgeous hotel room

The Pickwick Hotel is a very nice place to stay. The lobby is well decorated, and the rooms are beautiful. We weren't sure what to expect considering we made a very last minute reservation, but we were very pleased. The hotel was easy to find, near the financial district and tons of shopping. There was not much nightlife in that area, but the trolley and BART systems are nearby, so it is easy to get around San Francisco. A good choice, especially if you can get a decent deal on the room. I would definitely stay there again. We had no problems with anything, a rarity in a travel experience.

Absolute peach of a hotel

I stayed here with my husband and adult daughter- the room was spacious for the three of us, an excellent value, quiet, nicely decorated, and in a great location. I have stayed at other downtown SF hotels but I think this is my favorite so far, and well worth a return visit. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. First time I've been South of Market. Far fewer street people than closer to Union Square, which was another treat.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

I don't like sit down dining for every meal...I'd rather have a one great dinner (or lunch) per day at one of the fabulous restaurants in SF. Many of the local groceries have delicious meat pockets- piroshkis, that make a great and filling meal for about $2.00 each. You will be drawing upon SF's Russian heritage when you eat one!

Great Price for a Great Stay!

We arrived before our room was ready but they happily checked us in and stored our bags. Very friendly and helpful staff pointed out the highlights to see. Conveniently located within a short walk to public transportation, restaurants, museums, shopping. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to others and stay here again!
